Anyone know of anywhere i can find a pair (ideally) or a single Dunlop Roadster tyre(s) for my 51 rod brake Raleigh Dawn Tourist? My original Dunlop tube had a explosive blowout and while I salvaged the tube the sidewall of my OEM tyre is shredded and cannot be remade.

FOR SALE:   1976 Wards Open Road Bicycle posted by: Shadow Singleton on 5/29/2010 at 9:14:20 PM
Finally the 1976 Wards Open Road Bicycle is up for grabs...I have had this bike since I was a kid. Most original parts. Its missing the chain guard and the rear tire is NOT the slick tire originally stocked. The paint needs to be restored. Have not seen another of its kind out there yet.

MISC:   Help identifying Vintage Bicycle posted by: Dianna on 5/24/2010 at 10:16:20 AM
Hello all!

I picked up this bicycle sometime last summer and have been trying to find more information about it since then.

I've seemingly narrowed my search when I found a picture of an old reconstructed Sears Spaceliner but the differences in the bikes are just too great for the answer to settle in my head. I've been told it's a JC Pennys Formost, Spitfire, and/or Spaceliner lol it's really just, mind boggling.

If anyone's interested I've searched for months with not a lot of new information; I've taken photos and will post all the details in the bike i can find below. If anyone can shed any light on this beauty i'd really appreciate it. I'm really stuck between knowing if i should try to restore it to it's originality or if it's simply not worth it and could just go crazy with personal choices in restoration.

Thanks to all in advanced!

The Bike:
Original Blue Paint with hand painted "ForMost" (in photos)

Serial number on body: 94845 (really couldn't locate it online)

Tires have "The Silver Star Tire" going around them.

White grips are "Trim-Grip" in cursive.

Seat has "TROXEL: Moscow Tenn. USA" under neath (i found a lot of information about the seat via this bit of info but not much on the bike itself)

Pedals say "WALD 6140, WALD 6140 Pat Pend, Patent number 223074" searched for this stuff for far too long. i don't believe this patent was ever NOT pending as i couldn't relate it to bicycle parts at all.

That's all the "fine print" on the bike i could find. Last are the photos. Regardless if you can help or not, she's still a pretty girl to look at <3.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

Hi, Your bike was made by the Murray Ohio company of Nashville Tenn. It's a mid 60's model and you can tell by the pointy rear axle mounts or drop out as they're known.

The white rims are also a sign of the vintage. The later bikes had chrome rims.

Earlier ones had chrome rims too. It should have chrome fenders as well. The chainwheel is not stock, oddly, and neither is the front rim.

Are you sure about the spelling "ForMost"? "Foremost" (with an "e") was a house brand of JC Penney.
