FOR SALE:   Sprocket Cap for Raleigh full chaincase posted by: Jeff on 4/27/2010 at 8:04:22 AM
I'm looking for a sprocket cap for my black Raleigh 28" full chaincase. I'm also looking for the hex head screw to attach it to the frame and the tin tab that slides onto the "pie plate" chainwheel cover.

Additionally, I'm looking for a set of 28" fenders for my Raleigh. I'd love to run down the metal coat protecters that attach to these fenders, as well.

WANTED:   Tandem Chain Guard posted by: Chris on 4/26/2010 at 7:45:36 PM
Hey everyone, I am rebuilding a mid/late 60's Columbia Twosome, tandem bike and I am missing the center section of the chain guard. I have the front and rear sections, minus the clamp straps (I can make them), but I need to find the center section. It is about 2 feet long. I am willing to buy the whole thing if you prefer. The condition need not be perfect, but workable. I can weld and fill. If ANYONE knows where I can find this chain guard, middle section or complete, please let me know. Thanks for your help, Chris.

Hi, Chris. I am also Chris, and I am also rebuilding a Columbia Twosome; what are the chances?
Somebody just GAVE this thing to me, exactly one week ago, and it's my new mission in life.
So, I have the front and middle sections of the chainguard only, and it doesn't look like I'm going to find the rear section; naturally, I can't spare the center section, but I can give you the dimensions. It would be easier to reproduce than the other parts, provided you have access to a press brake that can handle 18 gauge steel, far more robust than the front, which is about 24 gauge.
It' 24.5 inches long, straight, and the contour follows the front exactly, in other words, it isn't "longer" to compensate for overlapping the front.
I can get more detail and pics to you if you wish. Maybe you can provide the same for that elusive rear piece. . . ?
Let me know. Chris D.

FOR SALE:   Vintage Schwinn Sportflite posted by: eleanor matteliano on 4/25/2010 at 3:52:47 PM
I'm looking to sell but I'm also still curious about the year of this model and it's value. I can't find anything else like it on the internet. It's rusty but has all original paint (including a checkerboard pattern next to the Sportflite logo and some pinstriping). It has a really cool front fender with what I call a "mohawk." I guess it's kind of a fin. Was originally a 3 speed, but when the line broke my vintage bike repair guy locked it into one speed. Its in good working condition, but the brakes need new pads. If you have info or are interested, please post or contact via email.

Schwinn serial numbers can be dated from 1948 onwards. A list is under technical resources on this site. Be sure to match the number's location. You can also find a date code on the Sturmey-Archer three-speed hub. You might have better luck selling it if you can describe it accurately, and you'll certainly do better if it's really old. Let us know what you find.

Schwinn never made a Sportflite model. It must be another make. You must Post pictures or be able to e-mail them to prople so they can help you.

Are you sure it's not a Schwinn Spitfire? Schwinn made a lot of them.

I just looked at a Raleigh International north of Providence. He is aksing 800 dollars but told me I could have to for 600. It measured 20.5 inches from the center of the botoom bracket to the top of the seat tube. An inch shorter than my own Raleigh Super course and so I thought it might be too small. for me. I ride a 56 CM Bianchi, so this might be good for you. It has not got the origianl sutff on it. It's all Shimano 105, but the frame was in good shape. I found it on craiglsist. If you can't find it, write me back, I can dig up the ad. It was jsut two weeks ago, and he is moving. Motivated.

For a date, you might check the rear hub. Sturmey Archer hubs have a date/year stamp, in the middle...rub the gease off.

Value would be more, if it had a correct style/period seat, handlebar. It's missing a brake lever too, bit of work to find same, original style.

Also, don't see the lower mounting peg (thing) for the pump. I don't know if those are replaceable, if missing.

I like the bike! What size is it (center of bottom bracket to the seatpost/top of tube?)

Might be interested, if you are willing to box and ship...for the right price of course.
