FOR SALE:   Columbia Sterling posted by: David on 10/31/2009 at 12:24:07 PM
I have just acquired a Vintage Columbia Sterling from My Uncle and it is a womans model. I cannot find a definate age in this sites Columbia serial number chart!
I have learned that some bikes have a year stamped on the rear hub and you add a year for the bikes age or something to that effect but this one doesnt have anything stamped on the rear, instead it has Germany, and what looks like 491 stamped on the front hub! Could this be a 1950 bike??
Certainly looks old enough nice big fenders and a Columbia chain guard and has Columbia on the seat that says By Persons USA. Bike also has no headbadge but has a columbia logo on the frame on the seat tube! Serial is a puzzle as it is located on the right front of the handlebar tube, it seems to be 0 or O followed by 262 and either an I or a 1? O2621? 0262I? Guessing 02621 other then that I do not see any letters and this sites serial number chart only has letters and numbers not just numbers? Tires Carlisle Tire & Rubber Division, Carlisle PA, Lightening DART!!!??
What year is it, how much can I expect it to sell for if I sold it??? Thanks David...

without seeing pictures of the frame and going purely on your description I would say its an early 90s Haro, Sport, Master, ground or air. The early model Masters and sports are desirable but not so much for the mid models. If you held onto it long enough you would find a buyer.

If you have anymore questions or want to send a pic to find out the exact year please feel free to email: Thisbanshees2fast4u@hotmail.com

I have a pair, gents and ladies, that are complete in all respects.
They both have dynahubs and lights, air pumps, brooks saddles and saddle bags.
The bad news is that I just decided to sell them today and have no idea what they are worth.
I also have a ladies enclosed chain 3 speed raleigh that is not a DL Tourist.

I don't know how to post pictures, I never used this forum before.
The bikes are in rough condition but they have ALL the bells and whistles complete.
I will know the price after I see what is available/prices at the show in Dudley on the 21st.
Are you interested in only the Ladies DL, Both DL's or all three?

RE:WANTED:   Raleigh DL Tourist posted by Richard Silpe on 11/22/2009 at 3:50:59 PM
After seeing what was available and the selling prices at the Dudley market on Saturday I have determined that a fair price for the pair in the condition they are in with the equipment that they have is $500 for the pair.
If the weather is good tomorrow, I will be posting them on Craig's List with pictures.

The sun finally came out and I was able to take the pictures.
Since I do not know how to post pictures, I have listed the bikes on Craig's List in the Boston/Cambridge area.

FOR SALE:   Peugeout UO-8 Men's 10 speed posted by: Bernie on 10/27/2009 at 10:33:55 AM
Peugeot Men's 10 Speed bicycle that has been sitting a shed for probably 30 years. This the Tour le Monde model which once won that famous race or at least that's what they told me when I bought it. Bike is intact including original air pump and reflectors but there is a lot of rust and this is good for a serious restorer of classic bicycles.

There is a coating of rust on just about all of the chrome including the rims, sprocket, pedals and other places. Tires and tubes are flat, of course, and dry-rotted. You restorers know that you will have to tear down gears and bearings for cleaning and repacking with fresh lube. Make offer or first $75.00 takes it. See photos at http://oldroads.com/oldwebs.asp?uploadid=645.

From center of chain sprocket to top of post (where seat tube enters) is 20 inches.

Last call for this bicycle, it must go this week. Will consider any offer. Bike is in metro New York City area (Staten Island). The frame is very solid with not much rust and could be polished . The bad rust is on rims and other chrome - see photos.

FOR SALE:   vintage bicycle 1920 -30 era posted by: Bob Sorensen on 10/26/2009 at 7:15:19 AM
I have an old bicycle I cannot identify. it has a frame and handlebars like a Mead Ranger (tool tank, top hinged), front wheel is wooden, markings on hub= new dep?????? model 12.( new depture ,I believe) forks closed end, 1 pedal is wooden, red with Victor, stamped on it. solid crank like 1916 mead ranger, serial # on bottom of crank housing 239690, looks like original paint was red and white. 26 tooth , skip tooth crank sprocket 6 pointed star with all stright lines on star ( no curves or waves ) on one star angle ( right side) is a fancy mark that looks like 'PON'. it's in cursive, scroll type so I'm not sure, it may be Jon or something else. rear sprocket is 9 tooth. it looks like MARROW written on the coster brake. can anyone tell me what it is and what it's worth or is it a mix of parts? I can send pictures if anyone's interested.

I have a Mead Pathfinder that era. The chainwheel has a six-sided shape but on mine, each lobe curves slightly, almost more like a flower than a star. I'd like to see pictures of yours at the address above. Where have you found comparables?

Any luck, Bill? There's probably plenty of old dried-out ones lying around, but if you want to actually be able to stop that might not do the trick... I'm interested to know if you find repro pads that match the stock ones.

Get Kool Stop "continental" pads. They don't look quite right, but they'll stop the bike.
