Mark, what is wrong with the long QR lever? This bike looks late 1940's or early 1950's, with an extremely steep head angle. Have you a makers name?
I would think finding a replacement lever could be time consuming.
I may be the last surviving racer to have used the Paris Roubaix single lever in a genuine road race. I had 48 x 51 and 14 to 24, and got all 10 gears, using a campagnolo handlebar control for the front changer.

Keith, my wife's uncle built this bike back in 1945 over in Italy. I did see a complete derailleur for sale on eBay but it was in Italy. The one I have works but it was welded back together.

Mark, I would think your best chance of finding one would be in Italy. Quick release wheels are mostly tightened far in excess of the requirement. Hope you find one.

I think I have all the parts you need except the fender. Do you need a complete rear wheel with the 3+2 hub? Is it a 40 spoke early model or a 28 spoke later model? I only have a 40 spoke coaster brake wheel I can sell but you can always just find a hub. I have a 3+2 hub but do not want to sell it at this time. The chain guard I have is not perfect but it is a hard to find part. Please email me direct by clicking on my name to discuss this further.

WANTED:   Need 8" inch wheels, 12" tires for project posted by: Oscar on 7/21/2011 at 3:53:52 AM
I am looking for a set of small bicycle wheels. 8" inch that take 12" inch air tires and that has a coaster type rear brake. Something from the 1930s or 1940s should work. Colson and others used fairly generic parts back then on there juvenile kids bikes. Will consider a whole parts bike this size from the era. Let me know what you have..

I'd get in touch with Copake Auction and ask them, but even the pros get a lot of 'em wrong. Six years of catalogs with estimates and hammer prices:

Value the 50s Indian Scout as you would any basic 3 speed English bike. Some sellers believe they are worth more because it says Indian. There is NO true lineage to Indian Motorcycles in Springfield MA. If memory serves me I think they may be Phillips or Robin. Yes the head badges are cool and chain guard decals but $150-300 would be all the money for one. The last one I had a few years back was $80 and I used it to get around swap meets etc until my Indian motorcyles friends tortured me so I sold it LOL.

Hope this helps...

Mike, my curiosity moved me to search some catalogs on Tom Findley
http://www.trfindley.com/pg_schwinn_cats.htm
I couldn't find any schwinns with coaster hub on 27" wheels. If it was 26x1 3/8, there are quite a few models that were available as one-speed.
You may have better luck. If you determine what you had, post and let us know, ok?

WANTED:   Triumph 10 Speed Men's posted by: Roger on 7/3/2011 at 3:22:19 PM
Looking for a Triumph 10 speed men's bicycle. 52cm post. Washington State resident. Had one in high school (1974) but mom got rid of it when I left for the Marines. It was a rebuild at that time, so I don't know what it's vintage was. I road it hard and learned how to turn a wrench with it. I would like another to restore/ride.
