Most of the Schwinn Town & Country trikes I have seen were in excellent condition, because older people had them. I have purchased four or five through the years for $25 to $75 each. I have sold them all for $225-$250 each. They're tough to ship so I've sold them with newspaper ads.

WANTED:   Schwinn Paramount Belt Buckle (circa 1977) posted by: Jared on 4/17/2009 at 7:11:51 PM
I'm hoping to find an old Schwinn Paramount belt buckle for sale. Most of the buckles I have seen were from around 1977. This particular one would be round with the Schwinn star in the middle.
Thanks.

Mike, have you got the old tire? If not, you'll need to determine the bead seat diameter in millimeters. I can't say there ain't no such thing as a 23 inch tire, but I can say Sheldon didn't mention it, which is significant. Check here:
http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html
Also, if you haven't already tried it, your local bike shop ought to be able to help.
I'd like to hear more about this. Please post what you learn (or if you've already got info you didn't post already). Thanks.

RE:WANTED:   looking for a 23 inch tube and tire posted by Keith Body on 4/20/2009 at 12:58:14 PM
Hi Mike, Are you sure it's not 26 x 1 1/2? The tyres were measured "top to top" ie. overall diameter in inches, and then the depth to the wire bead. So 26 x 1 3/8 rim is a quarter inch greater diameter tha 26 x 1 1/2.
This size was obsolete by 1950, although, like the 28's I used to keep 2 tyres of each size, in amongst a tyre stock of about 500 pieces.

I used one of these on a daily basis in the 1950-60's, very rarely failed to remove the cotter. Lubricate the cam, and adjust to get the best pressure on the top of the cam.

FOR SALE:   Red 1978 Schwinn StingRay posted by: Marilyn on 4/13/2009 at 10:39:03 PM
I have a Red 1978 3 speed Schwinn StingRay in very good condition and I would like to find a new home for it. It was originally bought for our son and has been carefully stored in the garage all along. Is there someone who may be able to suggest its value and/or a venue from which it may be more likely to be sold?

Jim, I'd be happy to look at pictures, but wouldn't expect too much interest in the bikes. The Hawthorne could be anything, but even if it's a deluxe model middleweight it's probably not collectible.
Does the Traveler look like this?
http://www.geocities.com/sldbconsumer/1962/62ccpg07.html
It was equipped with the generator and lights, and the seat bag. The two-speed is probably the most interesting, although the Sturmey-Archer three-speed is much more efficient. It had the nice stainless steel fenders and chainguard. If it has been stripped down, it's still great transportation for commuting.
