WANTED: White wall tires for 584 wheels posted by: Arild Lindseth on 2/1/2009 at 8:05:58 AM
Hi
I am having a hard time finding white wall tires for an old bike I have. The ideal size would be 44-584 or 47-584. I'm not shore the fork can take much more that that, 55-584 is probably too wide. Even plain black in these numbers are hard to find. The 584 sizing is the same as 650B and 26 x 1 1/2 x 1 5/8 (the last number can vary). Do anybody where I can find this size tires?

Most american bikes used 28" glue on tires. They were the same as modern 700s only the original tires were wider(usually in the 36 to 38mm range)and the sidewall would have stood up harder than the modern type.Several companies(coker,Universal and Harper sell these tires) And wheels older than those would have been wire on type

MISC:   Schwinn Town and Country 2-spd Tandem posted by: Leon on 1/29/2009 at 10:30:22 AM
I have an old Schwinn tandem bicycle that was given to me by my father-in-law about 37 years ago. It has a 1961 license on it. I do not use it and would like to sell it. How do I determine its exact age? What it might be worth? and what is the best way to sell it. I live in Northridge California and can provide a picture of the bike if anyone is interested.

You should also post a general location. You could easily spend half your budget on shipping if you didn't shop close to home. There are regulars posting here from all over the world who could hook you up easily in that price range. If you're in the Boston area, you should buy from Vin- take a look at his For Sale listings.

RE:FOR SALE:   How much are these worth?? posted by ken on 1/28/2009 at 11:39:57 AM
They are not collectible. I would classify them as garage sale items and feel lucky to get $100 for the pair, cleaned up and ready to ride. Half that might be all, unless you are close to a large craigslist area with lots of commuters. They are probably worth more as transportation than you would get out of them, that is, their function would be hard to replace for the cash value you would get at auction. Good for commuting and locking up at the train station, that sort of thing.

You can usually find skip-tooth chains on our E Bay. Just make sure of the size. Problem is going to be $$ shipping, unless you know of someone who will be traveling over here.
