There are two things you can do.

Either get a different kind of styrofoam, or make a "hot wire" knife.

The hot-wire knife can be dangerous. It might be too dangerous for you to use. The hot-wire knife is made of a length of heater wire, from a hair-dryer or a toaster. It's dangerous because it is red-hot, and because it has electricity running through it- you could get burned, electrocuted, or both.

I recommend using building insulation, available at any lumberyard. Make sure you get the colored kind, because the white styrofoam is too crumbly.
Blue=genuine Dow Styrofoam
Pink=Owens-Corning
Green=Pactiv brand
White=no name crap

Lowriders, Customs, Etc.:   Larz Anderson Bicycle Swap Meet & Show 2009 posted by: Peter Naiman on 6/13/2009 at 3:59:36 PM
It's official. The 2009 Larz Anderson Bicycle Show & Swap Meet is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation @ 15 Newton Street., Brookline, MA. As of last year the Museum of Transportation has agreed to let us open a full swap meet as well as a concourse for the show bikes, so we look forward to having a fun event this year.

Sign up time for the swap meet will begin at 8:00AM, and the bicycle concourse sign up time at 9:00AM. Show time will be from 10:00AM-2:00PM. As in the past this is an all encompassing event with cycles ranging from early antique period, early to modern lightweight, balloon tire and more. If it's anu intersting cycle no matter what period, you're invited to bring it along to show.

The swap meet spaces are the same as always, $25.00 for a 10X10 foot space, with an extra charge of $10 for table rental if you need one. Each space includes two passes to the show. There will be no charge to enter the bicycle concourse other than the entry charge to attend the show.

We are dedicating this years show to two very special people who past away within recent times, Sheldon Brown & Jack Kroll. Most CR member know of Sheldon Brown, Jack Kroll was a very good friend of the Larz Anderson Show. He was the sole proprietor and restorer of the Columbia Bicycle Museum in Westfield, MA. We usually give out best of show trophies as a Chairmans Award. From this year forward two Chairmans awards will be given out in memory of both Sheldon Brown & Jack Kroll.

For the swap meet we encourage Pre-Registration. Dale Brown of the CR List will be updating the website that he created for our show with an up to date registration sheet within a few days. We will publish the websites URL within a few days. A special thank you to Dale Brown for all of his help !!

We are looking for a few volunteers to help out with show registration, and also to do a few interesting lectures. If interested please contact me by email @ hetchinspete1@yahoo.com.

Thank you,
Peter Naiman

MISC:   Larz Anderson Bicycle Swap Meet & Show posted by: Peter Naiman on 5/11/2009 at 5:45:08 PM
Hello all,

Contrary to rumors going around, the LARZ ANDERSON BICYCLE SHOW & SWAP MEET is a happening event this year and scheduled for August as always, but since Cirque comes before Larz, out of respect for the great group that hosts Cirque, we purposely say little about LARZ until after Circue.

As usual the show will be on a Sunday, but because we've not decided on a date the show is not on the Larz Anderson Museums lawn events schedule as yet, but most likely the show will be scheduled for Sunday August 9th.

We're hoping to get this show back to where it was several years ago as one of the premier Vintage Cycling events that everone wants to attend. Is recent years Larz has not been quite the same, mostly because former staff at the Museum decided to cancel the Swap Meet against the wishes & objections of both Maurice and myself. But the Museum has a completely new, supportive & enthuisiastic staff that are in favor of a swap meet.

Again this years show will be as always an all inclusive Vintage Show for all eras of cycling, and we encourage you to bring any era bicycle to our show. We are a little late in planning due to health issues I've been undergoing these past six weeks, but I'm back on my feet and we're looking forward to a better than ever year at Larz.

If anyone in the New England area would like to volunteer their help with Larz, or presenting a lecture it would be greatly appreciated !!

More information will follow in the coming weeks.

Best regards from the both of us !!

I found an old murray in a dumpster, it looks just like a stingray and i'm gonna build it up as a lowrider, but it had what i assume are the original tires and they are pretty sweet, but i cant find any info on them anywhere... the rear is a slick, and the front is just a normal tire and they both say "THE FAST ONE sport tire" on them. Any info on these would be greatly appreciated...

I painted a watercolor of what the Type 9 Fiberglass Ladies Bicycle would look like with hard panniers, a fenderskirt on the front wheel, and the fairing replaced with something more like a dump-bucket.

John, I would like any info on this (looks like a big wheel) that u may have. My husband had one as a child, I have been looking for one, no luck, not even any info-nothing until your post. If u know where to find, any info to help search what else it could be called would be greatly appreciated. We went to 25th class reunion all his friends remembered this big wheel, he was the only one who had one and they all would come over to his house to ride it. Thanks you so much.
