Machine shop supply dealers, and some hardware stores sell stock threaded steel rod in 3-foot lengths, in various diameters and threading. They have it in metric and SAE thread, to match your bearing cones. The outer ends of the
axle will need to be supported, as in bike applications, if you're going to have much weight. The other possibility is to use a matched pair of forks welded into a tubing chassis structure. This would allow the use of normal bike front axles.

I had a black plastic trialer that sold in the shops and the Freeway bearings are sold in the hardware shops. And you can get a lot of things at a hardware shop. The above posting is right on! Ask the local bike shop mechanic, pick his brain, see what they say.

My question is, why is there so much activity on this kind of bike building, when you hardly see them ridden? Is this a bike only of imagination? Or for showing only? I ride a kustom kruiser with my son and his 20" kustom. When we go for rides and stop to grab a coke, at times some people say they wouldn't ride a bike like that in fear of scatching it or some other reason or another. I respond by saying what good is it if you can't enjoy it to the fullest. I didn't spend these enjoyable hours building these bikes just to look at. Maybe its my opinion only." But when talking to others with this style of bikes, They will tell me they have one at home in the garage, or in there bedroom like a trophy. It seems to me if your going to put that positive energy into a prodject its ok with some to stand there and look, rather than ride. Please share your comments. Thank you.

now that i can afford it, i'm about to start my first ever
totally brand new custom project.
i expect to put about a grand into it by the time it is done.
that's not a whole lot, but it's a start.
this bike will probably spend most of it's life in my living room and riding it around car shows.
sure i'll ride it once in a while, but VERY CAREFULLY!
anyways, that's why i have half a dozen 'rays layin' around
so i'll always have my riders.
i guess i just want to build something that i can
look at every day and know that i built it from scratch
and it's done my way. it's just a personal choice,
and i will choose to keep this one perfect.
ride on, christian

Anyways I don't have E-mail yet but if you have access to a shop I'd like to start brainstorming on this major prototype. If you could post a reply to this you could get in on this fantastic idea and maybe make it roll. Thanks ....Punk Rock Kardy!

On my low rider I have used as small as a 10" front tire and my forks are still fine. Scince then I've bendt out my forks and welded supports and I am now using a 12" front tire

LOWRIDERS:   hi i have a question posted by: Joe on 9/7/2000 at 12:23:24 PM
how do you lower the rear end of your bike when you have already put small wheels on it???

  Replies:
RE:LOWRIDERS:   hi i have a question posted by punk rock Kardy on 9/13/2000 at 10:06:55 AM
To lower a back end you chop and weld the two supporting bars by your seat. When you chop, bend the bottom supports to compensate for the lengthening of your upper tire supports. Youi will need acess to a shop. Keep cruisin!

RE:RE:LOWRIDERS:   hi i have a question posted by joe on 10/4/2000 at 2:48:06 PM
