Just uncovered another set of numbers under the crankshaft-1211-C1 (the first set of #'s were from the inside of where the back tire goes). Hope this helps with my search.

Hello. Could someone help me determine if a Huffy Rail would have a "Foremost" head tube decal and a "Penney" seat tube decal? It looks like a Rail. Serial #RH746278. Thanks.

MISC:   Restore or Sell ? posted by: Mike L on 1/8/2009 at 10:42:26 AM
My 5 speed Sting Ray appears to be a 1970 (sn#MF26195 on head tube). I purchased it at a garage sale in 1983 for $5 and enjoyed it though I was mostly into BMX then. I am considering selling whats left of this thing as is, though I have had the intention of trying to restore it for the last 10 years. The advice of anyone experienced with this kinda' thing would be appreciated. Availability of cost and parts is my main concern. MISSING IS AS FOLLOWS:
rear slick/2 spokes, fenders, chain guard, 1 brake lever and reflectors (did this bike even ever have a front fender?). Plenty of scratches in the paint, a good bit of surface rust on the chrome, small tears in the seat and a rotted original front tire. The bike would appear to be identical to a yellow 1975 model on this sight though it is red.

you've had it for 25 plus years ... I would bet you would be sorry if you sold it ... parts are available on e bay to match what you need or you can just replace the rust stuff with some parts from a bike you might get in a thift store ... thrift store bikes seem to go for anywhere from 8 dollars to twenty.

I restored a tandem bike that sat outside for years with my 14 year old son ... we would up getting new seats and handle bars but sanded down the rims and cranks and painted them. ...

keep in mind you do not have to do it all at once ... just do it one piece at a time ! makes a great winter project !!!

Peter thanks for the encouragement. Times are tight but you obviously recognize getting rid of the thing is not an easy decision for me. My son is 11 and his interest level in this is less than it was when I should have began restoring. Those that may be interested in buying and/or have an idea of what this thing could be worth please post. You may well see an ebay red 1970 sting ray project bike appear soon.

AGE / VALUE:   Schwinn Stingray Serial Number/Dating Issues! posted by: Chad R. on 1/4/2009 at 12:35:18 PM
I just picked up a nice old Stingray from Goodwill for $5, but now i am having some confusion dating it. The serial number begins "5Hxxx" which, from what I've seen, potentially means this is a Japanese bike made in August 1975...? If anyone has any differing information let me know. Also I am wondering how you determine what type of wheel is on the bike, (i.e. S2 etc..), as I am unable to find any markings on the rims? Finally, is there any information available in regards to the serial number that would show tell the original paint color, model, etc? the bike has been repainted and there are no logos or anything left to help me figure out what it is! Thank you for any responses that might help!

I don't think Schwinn made Japanese Sting-Rays in 1975.
Where is the serial number on the frame, and do the rims have knurl marks?

Hi, Sounds like your bike isn't s Sting-Ray or even a Schwinn. That's not a Schwinn serial number, check it again. Schwinn never made a Japanese Sting-Ray,the '98 and '99 replicas were Taiwanese and the latest ones were Chinese. Pat

MISC:   Newly acquired Columbia Dilly posted by: Zach on 12/15/2008 at 3:15:42 PM
I recently acquired a Columbia "The Dilly" muscle bike. It is green with the multi-colored psychedelic seat and grips and the Sturmey-Archer three speed shifter in the toptube. The bike was poorly kept and has serious rust all over the frame, fenders, wheels, etc., but it is all original. Is this bike of interest to anyone out there for parts or for a full restoration before I go and create something out of it? I may restore it, I may restore/customize it (since it needs so much work, or I may just use it for parts. Any suggestions or interested parties please send me an email. I can't find a serial number anywhere to give me an accurate date.

AGE / VALUE:   Confusion on Schwinn Serial Number posted by: Tom on 12/5/2008 at 10:00:04 AM
I just bought a red Stingray single speed. Almost new condition except for pedals and 2 nuts had some rust ( the others are excellent. The sideplate has some imperfections and clearcoated vinyl decals ( as on the forks as well ) rather than the water transfer decals on the frame.

Serial # is HAK07632

I was told by a bike shop that Schwinn remade 250 of these in 1989 from the Chicago blueprints and am suspecting this hay be what I have. HAK: perhaps the H signifies the reproduction of a 1974 Stingray.

The serial number HAKXXX is to a '98 or '99 replica Sting-Ray. Problem is, they only came in yellow or blue. They were made in Taiwan and looked like the original S/R's but were made differently. Maybe yours has been repainted.

MISC:   Huffy muscle bike? posted by: Richard Ryea on 11/28/2008 at 3:09:37 PM
Hello,

I am looking for my first bike. I believe it was a Huffy. I got it in 1973. It was black faded into orange (or the other way). It had 2 bars in the middle, or course wide tires with white raised letters. It had a black banana seat. If I remember right there was not much of a back rest. In my mind in looked totally like a race car.

Does anyone have any ideas and or pictures?

Thanks in advance.
