MISC: Slik chik front bearings query
posted by: Roderic D. Schmidt
on 4/28/2011 at 8:58:56 AM
| Greetings All I'm working on refurbishing a 1970 or so Schwinn Slik Chik for a neice, and pulled apart the front hub in order to clean and repack it. It is in pretty bad shape, and has two unmatched ball bearing retainers (one 6 balls, the other 7) with 7/32" balls. From what I've read, 3/16" size is more common in non-Campangnolo hubs. Has a previous owner put in the wrong size balls, or have I just not read the proper resource? The 7 ball retainer is a Schwinn approved, the cones are Schwinn, and the axle is Z 71 size, for what it is worth.
Many Thanks Roderic by: 207.246.218.205 |

| Off the top of my head " cannot remember the correct ball size, but certainly consider it using 7 of them since the Schwinn stamped cage holds seven. See what your local bike shop has lying around.

| Hi Vin, Thanks for the reply. I ended up using loose 7/32 ball bearings and it seems to be fine now, unusual size or no.

| It is an AMF built bike probably late 60's early 70's. It looks like an Avenger 5 that someone has taken all the 5 speed parts off of and spray painted white. It looks like the crank is from A Schwinn. It could also be some other AMF Renegade model but it is impossible to tell in that condition. Have fun with it. by: 65.184.73.119 |

| bike rod n kustom look them up
you see George Barris the creator of the batmobile and the munster koach and others cars did bicycles and he chose Iverson to get funky with! perhaps your iverson bike has george barris blood in the thing!
I found one and pried it loose from a crazed collector and shipped it and it was a holy grail for the buyer!
go to bike rod n kustom and do a search thru back issues for the george barris iverson bicycle
they showed george barris my e- mail and he loved it
by the way the gold 1959 Barris did for Elvis , those fins? my grandfather worked on those fins at the drafting table at G.M.
Hey McGee!!!!!! What ya got for me? Show me!!!!!! that's another story!

| The price on a Screamer can really vary. I would say the low end for a complete original is $250 and the high end is $800 or more. $1500 for the best of the best. I am very surprised there is no Screamers here on this site to compare to. If you want to email some pics to me I can get you an estimate from three separate people and be honest since I have no interest. Click on my name for email. by: 65.184.73.119 |

AGE / VALUE: Sting Ray Bike
posted by: Tim Olinger
on 12/26/2010 at 11:16:08 AM
| I purchased my son a sting ray bike a while back at the Auburn Cord Dusenberg Festival in Auburn IN. From the front fort, the serial number is JAK 19809. I have tried to enter that into Schwinn's system, but really can't confirm anything from there. Does anyone happen to have any knowledge of this bike? It's bright yellow with a silver banana seat. It has a rear slick on it and the front rim has some decal that says, FORMULA in black with a trade mark of F11 above it. On the chain guard it simply says Schwinn * Sting-Ray, and that is it. It has 28 spokes in front and back. The brake assembly says, SHIMANO E110 (Japan). I have looked at others but have only found ones that say Lemon Peeler or Country Time on them (they are similar in color and design). The reason that I am asking for your help is that I want to accessorise it with original pieces that should only go with this model and make. by: 98.226.184.152 |

| Your bike was made in between X-mas 1964 and new Years 1965. A Dec.'64 bike would have an M as the first digit and a Jan.'65 bike would have the new numbering system. That would be AA, meaning January as the first month and 1965 as the first year.Post some pics.
