AGE / VALUE:†††Need info on two bikes posted by: Jim on 11/18/2007 at 5:27:47 AM
I just picked up a Ross Apollo and a Fleetwing Tiger Cat and need some info. Both are 20" wheels, both are three speeds. Both appear to be original. Aside from clean up and replacement of small parts(cables/housing, couple of spokes, tires)they are in great shape. Any info would be appreciated, especially on the Tiger Cat. Thanks.

Lots of info on both cycles in the archives here.
Use the black Google search box above.

The info in the archives indicates that Fleetwing was made by Murray and sold thru Jordan Marsh dept. stores. No information regarding when they were made or for how long. If anyone has additional info especially on the Tigercat I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

WANTED:†††70s Chopper bicycle posted by: Scott on 11/13/2007 at 5:20:10 PM
I had a chopper bike that I bought in Great Falls Montana in 1971 that had a long chromes extended forks with a small tire, a long banana seat that had springs in the soports for suspension, a taller rear tire that was wide and flat like a racing slick tire, and the handle bars were wide and had horizontal bend and a vertical bend downward, it was steel blue with a blue metal flake seat. Mine was a single speed but you could get them with a 3 speed shifter in front of the seat. I have never seen another bike like it since I trade it for a 10 speed in 1974 in Tucson Az. The big thing that was different about this bike was the front forks being long and raked foward alot not almost straight down as the Schwinns were. Any info or pics would be great thanks, Scott

AGE / VALUE:†††Sting-Ray posted by: Mark on 11/11/2007 at 7:36:49 PM
Wondering about this Sting-Ray I just got. It's in need of a dramatic resto but I was hoping to get a little history before we start. It's our first bike resto and we are new to Sting_rays so be gentle...
(It came to us with the frame cut (and bent because if it)... we will be welding it back in place)
I looked through the search area and the pictures and did not see one like ours. We have a black seat and a chrome chain guard... Any thoughts? Year? Model?

HI...I HAVE ONE AND PAID $375 ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO.....DID YOU GUYS REAS THIS COOL COMMENT FOUND ON THE NET ABOUT THE BIKE?\
I have one of these bikes too, heres what a customer of mine sent me, I hope this help:

Here's what I know and it's straight from Cheetos Headquarters in Texas. Crayola Crayon and Cheetos teamed up for the Color My World promotion. They order 1500 bikes from a company in Taiwan. After this company started building them they figured out that they wasn't going to get rich and stoped building at 1000 bikes. They shipped the bikes and durring the trip over the ship they were on was caught in a bad storm and the entire load on board the ship shifter, crushing the load of bikes. Cheetos sent a insurence adjuster out by helicopter and they wrote off about 650 bikes as being damaged. Then the crew of the ship was order to throw the damaged bikes overboard. The remaining bikes made it to the warehouse in the USA. About 150(approx.) bikes were taken home by Cheetoes big shots or given to thier buddys. The remaining 200(approx.) were put on display in stores thru out the US then given away as 1st prize in the Crayola Crayon/Cheetos Color My World Contest. It's also listed in a book called "The Evolution Of The Bicycle 2"

PRETTY COOL RIGHT !!!!!

Sounds like you have had fun with your bike. We have one too. My husband worked for Frito Lay when he got his Chester Cheetah bike in an employee drawing. We would love to have a second CC bike so we could both ride. Even tho we probably shouldn't be riding them at our age, 74 and 75, we are kids at heart. Soooo, if you are thinking about selling your bike please contact us. We live in north Texas. Thanks, Jeanette Mayhugh

AGE / VALUE:†††intested in information on CCM Cheetahs and Venture Fireballs... posted by: evelyn on 11/4/2007 at 10:57:31 AM
hi,
i just picked up both a CCM cheetah and a Venture Fireball. I paid $150 for the pair. I'm just looking for information on either, just curious as to the history/dates of production/etc...

the cheetah has a perry two speed kick back hub, its been repainted blue, but otherwise is generally in pretty decent shape. no serial number which i find a little odd (i have a CCM mustang as well, and the serial number is on the bottom of the crank tube on that, which is where i'd assume it to be on the cheetah?), the original seat is on it (blue and white), and in pretty decent condition other than a small tear. it still has one original red-line tire...
the venture fireball, is quite different, its made in canada, silver and red (original paint), painted-to-match fenders, looks like the original seat.

they're my winter project bikes. and i like to know the history of things like this.
anyone have any information?

AGE / VALUE:†††schwinn musclebike posted by: richard on 11/2/2007 at 10:07:06 PM
i was working on a tile job at a customers house the other day and came across 3 schwinn stingrays. i asked the owner about them and they said they have been wanting to get rid of them for a long time and were going to throw them out, so they let me have them. one of them is a green schwinn peapicker. the second one is a scwinn fair lady in green. the last one is a schwinn apple crate.
if you know anything about these bike could you respond to this message
i was going to see if they are worth anything

If you want to add a picture to this page, the picture need to already be on the web somewhere.
In the add a picture box, you type the address of the picture like this:

OR...
If you want to build a page that has a lot of pictures of your collection, create a Reader's Rides site (you'll see a link on the top right corner of this page).
Then you can just upload the pictures from your camera or your hard drive.
It's easy.

I sent email to Vinny about this.
He says they've had requests to increase the number from 5 pictures to around 25 and they are working on it.
