AGE / VALUE:   FLYING O CYCLONE posted by: Mickey on 9/3/2007 at 1:14:08 PM
I have a Otasco Flying O Cyclone and I am trying to get some information about it. I have know idea how old it is or what it might be worth but I have had it for about 36 years. I think what makes it different is that it is a three speed but the shifter is with the hand grip. Can anyone point in the direction of finding out more about this bike.

These had funny serial numbers and I could never find a way to date them by the frame numbers. The cranks are date coded and that's the only way I've found to tell what year a Li'l Tiger is.

AGE / VALUE:   Schwinn Cruiser info wanted posted by: Kyle Henricksen on 8/29/2007 at 11:44:38 AM
Hi, I recently got this bike from the mother of a friend of mine who was cleaning out her garage. It is a Schwinn, and says Cruiser on the chaingaurd, so i assume that is its name. I dont really know much about it, but it is in very good condition. The only number on it says "MR579143". I tried looking this up online but couldnt find anything. If anyone has any information or could direct me to sites that might, please help. It has one of the classis white Schwin headbadges, shown in another photo. You can see it here:

I have one of those frames too but mine is black. The forks are a little longer than another schwinn I have and that makes me wonder if it was a 20" version of the Cruiser 5...

I should also add that this is a Free Spirit muscle bike. I was wondering if anyone knew what years these were in production, or how I could find out. The serial number is 50247677 072260. Thanks, David

MISC:   Huffy Rail shifter decal help posted by: Bob on 8/19/2007 at 12:39:58 PM
Hey Guys.......I'm restoring an original 1966 Rail and am in the process of replicating the decals. The '66 Rail had two decals located on the twin top tubes....I managed to reproduce both shifter decals, utilizing as a reference, a B&W photo from a copy of an old Huffy Rail promo sheet and the remaining original shifter decal left on my bike.

The remaining right side decal on my bike is black text with a white background....I need to verify that the left side decal is also black and white only. I notice a very, very small sliver of the left side decal remaining on the bike that was clearly RED and white.

Can anyone tell me if part of the left side decal was printed RED?
Please look at the attached pic.

I Appreciate you time guys...Thanks!!

Bob

I bought my second chopper in the late 60's early 70's. I was a paper boy and had the money for it. They cost about $100 when new. I've seen them advertised online for a few hundred if they are in good shape today. Sometimes more. What a great bike! Hope you enjoy the treasure you have in it.

WANTED:   36H Atom Drum Brake posted by: Michael Glasgow on 8/11/2007 at 9:33:33 PM
Hi,
I am looking for an 36 hole Front Atom Drum brake to finish my project. I have heard they came on the front of some 26" Schwinn Tandems. If you have one for sale please email or call 812-606-5249, it can be in a wheel or the hub only. I would also greatly appreciate any info you have on which bikes this hub came on, such as make, year and model to aid me in my search. This is the last part I need to complete my Schwinn muscle bike.
Thanks,
Michael

AGE / VALUE:   '74 ? orange krate posted by: Bill M on 8/10/2007 at 11:10:48 PM
Hi, just recently purchased an orange krate which was told was a 71 or 72.
I'm a newbie so i took the guys word. after checking the serail # a few days later (like I said I 'm a newbie LOL) I find the frame is a sunset orange '74 s/n AK XXXXXX. (yes 6 digits.) could this frame be an authentic Orange krate or is this a '74 Fastback frame with all krate parts attatched? The AK is January '74 so I'm wondering if this was one of the last ones made (according to most accounts orange krate production stopped in '73) Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Bill

MISC:   1970s "Banshee" posted by: Linda Moore on 8/10/2007 at 6:34:39 PM
Just wondering if anyone might have some info. When I was about 8 (around 1971) I was given a banana seat bike. I remember by the pedals on the frame it said Banshee. I have no idea where my parents bought it. There was a local Western Auto store or maybe they got it at Sears. It had a green frame, white banana seat(no backrest, just a small curved bar at the back of the seat). The actual handles on the curved handlebars were also white. I would be very much interested in finding out more info about this if anyone has heard of this bike. It would be even better if anyone still owns one! And while we're on it, do they make banana seat bikes for adults now? In cool colrs? That Banshee was my favorite bike, even though it had just one speed and pedal brakes. Thanks for any help!
