Thanks to Trevor and Rick for remembering me and finding the correct bars for this bike. Has anyone ever seen a 3 or 10 speed version in person?

Can anyone tell me if the handlebars on a 1971 Stardust are the same as the handlebars on a Stingray of the same year? I'm cleaning up a Stardust that currently has Manta-Ray bars on it and I want to find a pair of the correct handlebars. Thanks.

It would have the same bars as a Fairlady, which may have been a bit shorter in 1971

Just remembered that as a kid had a 20 inch sting ray that had a steering wheel instead of handle bars. Believe it was early 70's anyone know if these are in demand and what it would be worth? It is original I am only owner.

Probably a Huffy "The Wheel".
Look at the 2 Price Guices at the top of any page here on OldRoads. If you cannot find a Huffy "The Wheel", look up the Huffy "Rail" and add a few bucks.

I found this bike in the barn of the house I bought. I have started taking it apart to restore it. It looks like it is from the late 60's or 70's. It says "Quarter Horse" 3 on the chain guard. All other identifiable patches are gone (except the seat, which is from Moscow, Tenn). Does anyone knows what bike this is? Thanks

How can I tell if a schwinn stingray is a true schwinn deluxe? Is there any way to tell by looking on the vin or is it by fenders how can I tell without being burned?
by: 208.54.4.72

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Bike Identification posted by jj on 10/12/2010 at 3:56:54 AM
It should have the fenders. But the serial number unfortunately will not help. It will only tell you the year.

I have my second bike. A Schwinn Singray Fastback 5-speed built in Skye Blue. My research shows this model, color and 5-speed was built only between 1966-1969. Serial/ID number is located on left side above rear axel bolt. No is: 1B13589. Any help in determining exact year? I was only about 10 years old then. Front Schwinn nameplate has Chicago stamped on it.

You can use the serial number charts at under the "Technical Resources" tab at the top of any page.
That number looks like 1969.
Also check the "Sting-ray Summary" under the same "Technical Resources" tab.

Where on the frame is that serial number located?
It seems to have too many letters in it!
Once you figure the year you can use the price guides here.
Can you post a picture of it?

MISC:   REPLACEMENT (substitute) CONES FOR 68 STINGRAY posted by: M Ament on 8/14/2010 at 3:02:04 PM
Hello,
I tore apart my front hub on my stingray. The axle was bent and cones pitted, so I got new one at the bike store. The guy gave me some cones, but they looked like cheap plated garbage and they were smaller than the older ones.
I am not sure of the manufacturer of my schwinn approved 169 hub, Atom I believe. But can anyone tell me what cones I can put in that will be a good match.
I have seen some Shimano ones that look alike. The size is a 5/8th inch shaft for axle, and the cones are 15.75 diameter and 11.65 in length. Blued steel.
My cup bearing cover has a 16.45 inside diameter, so any cones up to that diameter would be good. The closer to the cup bearing the better.
Also can anyone recommend dust covers for the front hub?
Either the rubber ones or big shiny Chrome ones. The outer diameter of the hub is 41.5mm.
I'm not a bike pro, so finding all these parts is very time consuming, and it seems these days every search leads you back to Ebay!!! ARghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Oh anyone know if they have silicone nitride cones! Lol
just kidding I can't afford that!!!

Ok to make it easier i will put on inch measures.

5/8 inch cone diameter
7/16 cone length
5/8 inch shaft

5/8 inch outer grease cap
1 1/16 outer rim(where cover would cover lip)

So 5/8 is pretty much the diameter and that would be close to the bearing cap.

The earlier measurement for the dust cap is for the whole hub, not the area just outside the rim of the hub that is
outside bearing

So if anyone can recommend a decent replacement thanks!!

Whoops, its seems the atom hubs are on the crates. I have a Fastback. The hub says Schwinn approved 169 made in france.
Any information on the manufacturer in france appreciated too. Or the hub number s-2? Its something like that.
