AGE / VALUE:   diamonback vipor posted by: marilyn chapman on 10/28/2006 at 2:45:54 PM
We bought a storage unit (unopened since 1985) The kid died in an accident in early 80's> There are about 5 bikes in there, all from the early through late 70's. How do I find values? There some good bikes: Diamondback "vipor", "Panda"-somethings(can't see), Skyway, Nishiki, Sears Freestyle, and a couple more. They are all in good shape just terrible dirty. The mom moved out of state, she was heart broken, and no one has touched this storage until now. Any help you can give me? I'll send pictures when cleaned.

My 10 year-old grand daughter just bought a great bike. Pink, AMF Roadmaster Avenger 324, Girls, Black banana seat, ape handle bars. Can anyone tell me about this bike. I haven't been able to find anything related to this model. I have looked over the entire frame and cannot locate a # of any kind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. She is madly in love with this bike. I owned a 1968 Stingray when I was 10. Great to see her liking a vintage.

I just purchased a Star Bike Made in Germany.

It has 12 inch wheels and a front brake that pulls off the right handle grip area and pushs straight down onto the front wheel. It also has coaster brakes. Has anybody seen these before. I am also looking to purchase a 20 inch boys bike from the late 60s early 70s era with a banana seat. If anybody has one let me know ]]thanks '

I just pulled a 1970 rollfast skoot out of my rafters.it's a blue girls bike in the stingray style.bike has wide w/w tires, blue bannana seat ,tall apehangers.decal proclaims 95th year in business.bike is very complete and shows little wear other than light rust freckling on some chrome.seat, grips, and pedals look as new--tires are flat but also show minimal wear.is there a market for these and whats a fair price to ask?I'm kinda tired of getting burnt on ebay so i'm trying to learn a little.i still have about 30 bikes hidden around my shop, garage, and basement,so a little knowledge sure helps. thanks

AGE / VALUE:   Apple Krate JAK0925 posted by: Garrett on 10/14/2006 at 8:04:39 PM
Recently purchased a bike identified as a 1972 Apple krate with the serial number JAK0925. Listed it for sale and was contacted by a potential buyer who wanted to tell me it was NOT a 1972...instead it was a 1998-99 reproduction of an apple crate. The same individual told me if it were a 1972, the serial number would be located under the headplate. When I checked, that is precisely where it is located. When I tried to date the bike on various dating sites, the beginning suffix JAK is not recognized. If the number were AK, this would be a 1974 Apple Krate. Does the letter J represent reproduction and AK being 1974, is this a reproduction of a 1974 Apple Krate? Or is the J an ignored letter and this IS a 1974 Apple Krate based on the AK... would appreciate someones input on this

JAK is not a 1974 krate. There is only 2 letters needed to ID a schwinn. If Id-ing a 1974 look on the left rear side where the rim bolts on.

RE:AGE / VALUE: Apple Krate JAK0925 posted by Hendu on 10/16/2006 at 9:09:18 AM
Definitely a reproduction model.
JAK converts to September of 1998.
There may also be a 4 digit code stamped into the
headbadge and a caution decal on the top straddle bar.
Is yours a single speed?
I believe only the Grey Ghost was reproduced in a
5 speed version.

Schwinn made 3-speed base Stingrays from 1965 to a four-year hiatus in '72, then offered again from 1976 to '79; Deluxe models were made from '65 to '71; and a Fastback option from 1969 to '71. Is your serial# located on the front or back?

the number is on the rear and it is definitly A 22357.the Strumey/Archer hub has no bands and is dated 65 there is no coaster brake.i just cleaned it up a little bit and it seems all original,Parsons seat with square sissy bar the seat and hand grips are both a black/gold metallic look.the serial number has me stumped but it only has the A 22357 ,i've cleaned the area around it and thats it.the bike is pretty nice any idea what it's worth? thank you

frame code dates to august 24 1953. they made this frame style back then as well, Stingray is a trim option, not a frame design. however there is a date code error in the Schwinn factory log, which is thought to be only an entry error, IF they indeed dated the frames and not just a clerical error, Then this would be a January 26 1966 build.

WANTED:   7 speed Stick Shifter posted by: Mark on 10/8/2006 at 11:47:15 AM
Looking for a 7 speed stick shift, either newer or vintage but in very good condition. Have searched for new but nobody seems to make them anymore (seems with the big demand for musclebikes/choppers etc. that Schwinn or Shimano would start making them). Anyone know of any independent/small bike builders that make stick shifters?
Any ideas welcome...thanks Mark
