AGE / VALUE:   Sears Screamer 1 posted by: Bryan on 6/24/2006 at 11:00:44 PM
I have a Sears Screamer 1 that I am considering selling. It is in great condition. No work done on this bike. All original-paint, decals, everything. Has the original Sears Drag Slick tire--very sharp. Everyone loves this bike. No rust--rode for a few weeks only. Chrome perfect because was kept with a fine lightweight oil to prevent rust or tarnish. Does anyone know what this bike might go for?

I have recently acquired a Huffy girls "Shamrock" bike. I believe it is from the early 70s, but am unsure. It is lime green with a banana seat. Any information would be appreciated. Also: Is there any way to check the year by serial number on a huffy? Thanks, Scott

AGE / VALUE:   schwinn stingray posted by: Steve on 6/16/2006 at 3:00:43 AM
I have a 1974 schwinn stingray deluxe. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a regular stingray of that year and a deluxe ? Also, the rear hub is a BENDIX with one wide line in the center. Is this a multi-speed hub ?
Thanks,
Steve

Have a look at the "Sting-Ray Summary' under the general resources section. It will show the differences between a regular and a deluxe.

On a Bendix hub, a single red band means single speed. Triple blue or yellow bands mean 2-speed.

Was Mossberg a local department store or hardware store?
It could be a re-badged Columbia, Murray. Huffy, etc, badged for a store.

MISC:   Mohawk Bikes? posted by: Rich on 5/30/2006 at 5:58:03 AM
Hello-

I'm trying to find any information on a bike I had as a kid in the early to mid 1970's. I'm not 100% sure of the brand name, but I think it was a "Mohawk." Here's what I remember:It was similar to a Raleigh Chopper, but with more of a Schwinn Stingray type frame. It was blue, 3 speed, with the shifter mounted on the middle of the frame (Exactly what I wanted!) Slick rear tire, banana seat, Sissy bars. It had a picture of an Indian Chief on the chainguard. This bike was a birthday present that my Dad bought me at the Emporium department store at the Almaden Fashion Plaza in San Jose, California. Sadly this bike was stolen from my garage while my Mom drove me to school.............She left the garage door open! I only had this bike for about 3 months, but I still remember it fondly, and miss it. If anyone has any idea what brand, or type of bike I'm talking about, and has ANY information or pics I would GREATLY appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks!

Rich

RE:MISC:   Mohawk Bikes? posted by gob on 8/5/2006 at 9:30:23 PM
It was not an AMF. I had an orange single speed Mohawk. It had the Banana Seat, Black pin stripes, the Ape Hangers, and a double top tube. I probably got in in 76 or 77 in Indiana. Interestingly enough, I moved to San Jose in 1980, where I tried to convert it to a BMX and painted it Candy Apple Blue. And spent a lot of time drooling over the bikes at the bike shop next to Mellow McGee's Ice Cream shop.

AGE / VALUE:   Ross Stingray Style Bike posted by: Alissa on 5/30/2006 at 4:37:49 AM
I recieved a free ross bike. I have read up about the big contraversies with this company and am just wanting more info about it. Also, I am very new to Stingrays and It needs to have the main crank replaced and bearing, so im curious if there is a good place online to buy these types of things and how do i know if they will fit this bike. I have seen a lot of schwinn parts but none for ross. additionally, from what it sounds like it would be better to replace with something after market anyways. Im excited for this new project and who can beat free. (it also came with a shorter sissy bar and seat.)
