I just picked up a new Wallmart Schwinn Stingray Orange County Chopper,20 X 41/4 rear tire).Floor model needs some cleaning up but no damage. At an $80 investment is this something I might be able to resell to generate a little income to support my 2 wheel habit?I have the option to pick up 3 more for the same price per piece.I really don't have a clue about these. Thanks, all these forums are great!

i am guessing wholesale on that item to be in the $40 range. When it comes to buying bikes in bulk they are cheap. The wally world here had 2 of them in the entryway last week for $50. i would not pay $80 for a devalued item, and with the glut of knock offs on the shelves, you will see those stingrays at $100 new in the box soon.

Thanks Gary,I've come to that conclusion. They are impractical, size restricted, heavy, but kind of cool looking.
Wanna buy a bike??

MISC:   Raleigh Chopper posted by: Charl Cilliers on 1/10/2006 at 1:41:34 PM
Hi

Just bought a 1976 Mark 2 Chopper the other day, made in SOUTH AFRICA. Its in pretty good condition, you can view it on http://www.oldbikes.741.com

I am missing a chainguard though. Any ideas where/how I can get one since I live in South Africa?

Now my next mission is to find a Mark 1 Chopper in good condition. Once the old bike bug bites you just can't stop!

whoah man - that is one nice rare chopper you have there!!
it's a mk2 sure, but check out the mk1 type round top sissy bar, and that colour - it's very rare to find the dark purple on a mk1 - I have never seen it on a mk2!!
I have a friend who makes repro chainguards - please feel free to email me for more info on your bike - keyzkev (@hotmail.com)
cheers!! - kev

MISC:   Banana Seat Bike Newsletter - "The Ape-Hanger" posted by: "White Chubbie" on 12/20/2005 at 6:28:42 PM
I'm assembling the first issue of "The Ape-Hanger", a newsletter for all things banana seat. This first issue will be free and we will see how interest is in future issues to gauge expenses and possibly begin charging for ads, postage or membership in the future. My intent is to put out an electronic version, emailed to recipients as either a PowerPoint presentation file or as JPG files as well as a limited paper edition mailed to those unfortunates without computer skills or access. This should keep costs down. I’m searching for guest columnists to provide input into the newsletter. If you’ve got some good information, a cool story, pictures, or anything else you think would be interesting to other collectors, please drop me a line. Anyone submitting something that is used in an issue (other than ads) will automatically get their issue for free, regardless of method of transmission (electronic or paper) If you'd like to be on the list of subscribers for this first issue, drop me an email at:
theapehanger@hotmail.com
Be sure to let me know how you'd like to receive the newsletter (electronic format (Powerpoint or JPG) or paper, mailed to you). Some things I'd love to include:

Ads:
For Sale
Wanted to Buy
For Trade
Services Offered
Pictures
All types of banana seat bikes
Stories
Tell us your cool stories involving banana seat bikes
Serial number charts
All brands
All Brand Information
Paint colors offered by year
Features
Options

You get the idea.....This newsletter will cover ALL BRANDS, ALL STYLES, like I said ALL THINGS BANANA SEAT.

Thanks

make that a "plastic" tank. It also had shocks. You can view the bike on this link.
I am looking for details on when it was first produced and how long it was in production. The picture i found on the internet refers to the bike as a 58 Rampar. Here we knew them as Mean Machine's by Western Flyer...round abouts the early 80's

AGE / VALUE:   MY BIKE COLLECTION. posted by: LYONS on 12/8/2005 at 2:18:46 AM
I STARTED COLLECTING BIKES ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO. I AM 40 YEARS OLD AND I LIVE IN THE BOSTON AREA.I COLLECT OLD BANANA SEAT BIKES,MUSCLEBIKES,AND NEWER STYLE CHOPPER BICYCLES.I FOUND MY FIRST BIKE IN THE TRASH,AND THE HOBBY BEGAN. I HAD SOME OF THESE STYLE BIKES AS A KID BUT MOST LIKLEY DESTROYED THEM.THE BIKE I FOUND IN THE TRASH WAS A 1960S TYLER,GIRLS FRAME ,WHITE SEAT ,BLUE FRAME . A REAL PIECE OF CRAP,BUT I KNEW SHE STILL HAD SOME LIFE IN HER YET.I STARTED LOOKING IN THE WANT ADS,AND CAME UPON A 1970S GIRLS ROLLFAST,PURPLE WITH PURPLE SPARKLE SEAT.I GOT IT FOR $40.RIDING THIS BIKE AROUND ONE SUMMER ,ALOT OF PEOPLE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THE BIKE AND THE MEMORIES IT BROUGHT BACK.IT WAS PRETTY COOL.I STARTED LOOKING FOR MORE BIKES,AND FOUND A 1970S IVERSON CHARGER,I PAID $150. IT WAS IN OK SHAPE,BUT I HAD TO GET IT,IT WAS THE FIRST BOYS FRAME THAT I HAD FOUND.MY NEXT FIND WAS A 1985 KIA LIL SCAMPER,PINK,GIRLS FRAME.I FOUND THIS AT AN ANTIQUE STORE AND GOT IT FOR $20.IT IS PRETTY NICE I GOT A GREAT DEAL ON THAT ONE.THEN ,I DISCOVERED THE INTERNET AND FOUND VINNY AND THIS SITE,OLDROADS.I BOUGHT A 1979 SCHWINN STINGRAY,MADE INTO A LOWRIDER,FLAMBOYANT RED PAINT ,ONE OF MY FAVORITES.I THEN FOUND A 1999 STINGRAY REPRO ON EBAY, I PAID $200.FOR IT IN 2001.I THEN GOT A GREEN 2004 LOWRIDER BIKE FROM THE LOWRIDER COLLECTION,ALSO FROM OLDROADS. I GOT NEW 18 INCH APEHANGERS, WITH BLACK SPARKLE GRIPS. NEW SEATPOST,36 IN SISSYBAR,BLACK VELVET BANANA SEAT.NEW REAR SLICK TIRE,RIMS,TIRES TUBES.I KEPT THE ORIGINAL REAR DUCKTAIL FENDER,KEPT THE ORIGINAL CRANK.NEW PEDDLES,CHAIN.I PAINTED THIS BIKE ORANGE FLAME PEARLCOAT.(THE COLOR OF THE DODGE PROWLER) IT IS AN AWESOME LOOKING BIKE ,DEFINATLY ONE OF MY FAVORITES.ANY WAY ,I AM ALWAYS FINDING NEWER BIKES THAT I WANT EVERYDAY,ON THE WEB AND OTHER PLACES,BUT $ IS MY BIG ISSUE.THE KIND OF BIKES I LIKE RANGE ANYWHERE FROM $100.to$2500. all the schwinn repros, and newer style chopper bikes, and those hard to get original krates.
