Found it...:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42312&item=7148412650&rd=1

This is an interesting machine for sure. Headbadge actually states that it is an OCC bicycle. While I'm mose certain that OCC did not manufacture it (otherwise, it would be priced considerably HIGHER), they obviously are having it co-manned (Co-Manufactured) by someone.

Nice find!!! Looks like a well-made unit... but hard to tell from the pics. Would like to see one in person fer sure...

AGE / VALUE:   Apple Crate posted by: steve on 4/10/2005 at 10:15:02 PM
I just purchased an Apple krate for $25, serial #JD06***. Its in rough condition with fading paint, minor rust, seat has faded, missing rear reflector and front fender. But it has no dents or dings. Was wondering what year it is. I am going fix it up on a limited budget. I am open to any and all suggestions on restoring.

I got the year JD is 9/68 Apple Krates are not listed in 68, because of the month is this considered a 69? It has a whitewall slik on the rear, was this origional? All pics i've seen do not have the whitewall tire.

Your Apple Krate was put together somewhere in 1969 (the 1st year of Apple Krates), but the frame itself was manufactured in September 1968.

Electric? Go figure. No, I've not seen one. 1/4 mile on a charge? Not a lot of range there... but hey, could be used for the uphills I guess.

I bet they will start turning up at-retail soon enough. Seems that production has ramped up sufficiently to have them in-stock on the Walmart selling floor.

I MADE A MISPRINT,THEY GET 25 MILES PER CHARGE.1/4 MILES WOULD BE PRETTY POINTLESS,DONT YOU THINK?

RE:electric stingrays posted by Larry "Boneman" Bone on 4/7/2005 at 9:38:52 AM
Ah... that's much better. 25 miles makes a lot more sense.... I did find that the .25 mile range did seem pointless... but the... 1/4 mile... depending on how FAST one goes ;-)

I've not seen anything of this... be it on the web or up close and personal. Could be pretty interesting. And being DC powered... there are certain things one can do to a DC motor to up the performance.... without re-winding the armature.

THESE ELECTRIC STINGRAYS ARE THE SAME AS THE 20 INCH OCC CHOPPER BIKES. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT HANDLEBARS.THEY ARE PAINTED BLACK, WITH AN ''ELECTRIC SHOCK'' DESIGN.THESE ARE NOT THE SCOOTERS.THEY ALSO HAVE AN ARMY TYPE VERSION OF THE STINGRAY CHOPPER BIKE.ITS ARMY GREEN WITH A GRIMACING FACE ON THE GUSSET,LIKE ON THE NOSE OF AN OLD BOMBER JET.IT ALSO HAS A TAN SEAT INSTEAD OF A BLACK ONE. IT LOOKS PRETTY COOL.WE WILL SEE HOW HARD THEY ARE TO COME BY.YOU CAN SEE THESE BIKES ON THE WALMART WEBSITE LISTED UNDER BICYCLES ''STINGRAYS''GOOD HUNTING !!! MY BIKE RIDING COMPADRES.

Hi all,

I am looking for some information on an old muscle bike made by Chiorda. It is in rough shape, wonder if I should restore or just modify and use for a cruiser. It is an old schwinn muscle bike look alike.

Thanks...

I've never heard of "Chiorda". Sounds Italian... but one never knows. A rare piece? Maybe. As to restoration, sure why not. If nothing else, give it a good top-to-bottom cleaning up and see if then it strikes your fancy.

I for one, think that any of the "Old Iron" is worth putting in a little effort. Even the off-brand look-a-likes of yesteryear were better constructed than the stuff you see at Wally World today.
