MISC:   OLD SCHWINN??? posted by: wildbill59 on 6/22/2000 at 7:52:13 PM
We have an opportunity to buy for $100, a SCHWINN, that has all the parts, except for the chain guard. The fenders and rims are chrome, and they have surface rust, but the seat, peddals, and frame are all in great condition. The bike has a shock absorber on the front fork (what I call "knee action". Would like some input from someone that is in the know about bikes. GOOD DEAL????

STUPID BIKE TRICKS:   Stupid act while using this forum posted by: Fred on 6/21/2000 at 8:30:09 AM
While reading posted notes in this forum Monday, I accidentally spilled a glass of Squirt soft drink right on my keyboard. Dang it!! I shook it and wiped it and got a lot of it out but funny things were happening. I called Compaq service yesterday and told my tale to a nice lady. She listened and then said; "I'm not supposed to do this but I will send you a new keyboard under warranty". That was more than I deserved. Now get this; I received the keyboard today less than 24 hours after my call. Is that good service or what? Go Compaq!!!

That's impressive, but was it this Forum or was it the Compaq company?

RE:STUPID BIKE TRICKS:   Stupid act while using this forum posted by ChristopherRobin on 8/22/2000 at 12:55:21 PM
While I was a gas station attendant, we had a plastic inlay covering the keyboard on the regester and equipment. Why do they not sell them for computer keyboards? Or better yet a keyboard that doesn't act up when you spill something down on it? I am sick of typing anyway!! When do we get computers we can talk to?

FOR SALE:   Don't leave it unlocked for a second posted by: ChristopherRobin on 6/9/2000 at 9:36:01 AM
I had a mountain bike on my car rack and I pulled in to this clothing store to pick up a new white shirt. There were these two guys and they came to attention when they saw that I was going to leave the bike alone, unlocked on the back of the car rack. I noticed the look on their faces and so I doubled back and grabed my bike and brought it into the store. I met a salesman who told me that I could not bring in the bike. I pointed to these two slimeballs and told him that I did not feel like being a victim today and that I was there to spend money in his store and the quicker he could sell me a shirt the quicker I would be on my way. I also said that bicyclists are customers too. I got the shirt and was on my way out and the one fellow sneered at me as I pulled out and away. This was my only mountain bike and I hated this 400.00 monstrosity and so I traded it for something I liked better. I was there to buy a shirt not lose one. So this is an "ALMOST STUPID BIKE TRICK"

My daughters friend gave her a bike. It's a Schwinn Varsity. I have tried to look up the serial number on the lists, but couldn't find it. I would like to know the age of the bike and possible value. It is a 27 inch, serial number CE38946. Any information will be helpful. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the "CE" stands for March, 1969 date of manufacture.

RE:MISC:   Schwinn Varsity posted by jesse on 8/14/2000 at 2:19:27 PM
you are correct on the manufacture date of march 1969 the 27"bikes were mostly touring bikes

My grandmother has a black men's bike. She doesn't remember anything about it. It has the words Deluxe Sports Tourist on it. It has 3-speeds and handle-bar brakes. I can't find a manufacturer's name or serial number on it. Is there anyone who can help me identify it?

Hey Anonymous I don't think her grandmother stole a bike from
a black man. I think she meant it is a Man's frame model bike, painted
black, which her granny owns?

FOR SALE:   Bike Prices posted by: Robert on 5/19/2000 at 6:56:09 AM
From watching the prices of bikes/parts on Ebay go higher and higher it seems that the average collecter with a limited budget cannot afford the going prices. Are the increased prices paid just a trend or the actual value of the items being sold?

  Replies:
RE:FOR SALE:   Bike Prices posted by TOny on 5/23/2000 at 10:51:59 AM
I think there is a general upward trend. But some of it is seasonal, too. In Spring and Fall vintage bike prices rise. Around the winter holidays and the dof days of summer prices drop.
