STUPID BIKE TRICKS:Tossed out some stuff posted by: Kmedia on 2/23/2000 at 6:11:34 AM
About a year ago I tossed out a bunch of old Raleigh and Sturmey-Archer
3-speed parts: New cables, triggers, pulleys, etc. I figured nobody would want them, seeing
as I can find a Raleigh at the local Goodwill for $10 to $20 every day of the week.

Now I see these things going for $15 to $35 each on Ebay.
Why didn't I look around before tossing them? And they are so easy to pack!

A lot of folks threw this stuff away. You would be surprised. I bought things at one place and was given permission to go into the dumpster at another place. The 10 speeds came in the 3 speeds went out. The waste was and still is astounding. Now you know.

Does anyone have any infomation on the ShaftDrive Rambler - it has wood wheels, nickle plated handlebars & leaf spring on the front end, twin shock absorbers on the rear and a multi speed transmission(?) Unscrew a cap & move lever to change gears. I suspect this is from the 1870/1880's era.

RE:MISC:shaft drive Rambler posted by Jackie on 1/12/2000 at 5:46:56 AM
I could be wrong, but it may be the same bike as the shaft
drive Columbia of that era. I know Columbia built shaft
drive bikes then, and they've used the 'Rambler' name on
a lot of models over the last century.

Look at the serial number on you bikes. Look at the serial number number in this forum. That will give you an ideal of what you have.

Thanks,
