If it's a typical Huffy-type poorly constructed tandem, probably around $100 if you can find a buyer. If it's English-built, a good deal more. Post a photo if you can.

FOR SALE:†††Bicycle I.D.??? posted by: Tim on 2/19/2009 at 10:36:48 PM
Aloha! I have an old Tandem Bike that had a territory of Hawaii license "1956". It is a steer from the rear, with a steel rod on both sides of the front fork that connect to the base of the back handle bar neck. The cranks both have peddle shafts that can come off. The front housing that holds the front crank bearing has a steel square plate w/4 bolts that hold in a wooden bearing race that hold the crank bearings in place. The rear crank housing is normal. It has a skip-tooth chain.26" rims, with rotten Good Year tires. It looks like the 1931-40 Colson Tandem they have on the web site. The only I.D.# I have found on the whole frame is on the rear seat post clamp right side. The numbers are 806 or 306, the first number is hard to read, with the numbers 16 just above that. Please, I could sure use your help. Tim

MISC:†††Bluegrass Tadem -60's posted by: Amy on 2/18/2009 at 5:55:05 PM
Hi..hoping someone can help. I have a red tandem that my parents bought us kids when we lived in Louisville Ky. It was brand new but I am a bit foggy on the exact year we got it ..perhaps mid 60's, no later. It's in pretty good shape with exception to rust on chrome.. I had my husband pull it down from the barn rafters the other day and have mused over selling it. However, I have very limited info regarding this company. Any help would be so appreciated, many thanks.

Amy, as I recall Bluegrass was or is Louisville's big hardware chain. The bike would have been rebadged by them. The trick is to determine who the manufacturer was. Some possibilities are Schwinn, Huffy, Cleveland Welding, Murray and Columbia; if you look at pictures of those makes you may recognize something. Take some pictures, and we'll try to help.

Anyway I have number now - 4H863946 - and really do think my dad bought it in 1966 (brand new) or really close to that year in and know it was in Louisville - since we lived there at the time.. I am not quite sure how to get pics on this post..help! And Thanks!!

Here's a picture http://www.velo-zuerich.ch/velo-zuerich/velo/faltvelos/faltvelo-poketby/faltvelo-poketby.htm It's a small folding bike with 3-speed Sturmey Archer gears, 16" wheels and front dynamo.

MISC:†††Columbia Twosome? posted by: Dave on 1/10/2009 at 6:36:57 PM
I have what I think is a Columbia Twosome tandem. It was originally a light yellow color, but has been repainted. It matches several pictures of Twosomes I've seen, but could be a rip-off. I need to know where to look for the serial number. I also need a chain guard (it appears to be a two-piece chain guard - but the pictures I've seen make it look like its one piece - that's why I think it could be a knock-off). Any other advise or info on where to get parts would be appreciated! I don't have any intention of trying to restore the bike to original condition - the fenders are cheap replacements, and the front fork doesn't look right. I would, however, like to find a good source for replacement, OEM or otherwise, parts.

Thanks!

I recently found a cheap ($75.00) tandem bicycle. It's marked Columbia twosome but it too has a two piece chain guard. It uses a two chain system. I also can't find a serial number on it. I am in the process of fixing a rear crank problem. I will not have more than a $100 in it, so as long as my daughter and I can ride it, I think the money was spent fairly wisely. If you read anything about it being a knock-off, let me know.

It may have been fixed, but the bodylines match up. I found a pik of an old 60's comumbia tandem, the frame looks like this. Any help would be great!! I have pix,it's in need of restore!! Thanks

WANTED:†††I need a handlebar stem 4 tandem posted by: Alex on 12/10/2008 at 7:23:47 PM
I'm looking for a passenger handlebar stem for the rear of a Rollfast tandem from the 1960's. I believe this would clamp around the narrow seatpost used by Schwinn and other makers of this era. I've misplaced mine during a mild refurbish of this Rollfast tandem, at least that's the excuse I'm telling my wife LoL. Thanks, Alex

If you're selling it on Craig's List in a city where people ride bikes and it looks good, works, and doesn't need tires, you might get $100 or even a bit more. Any condition problems and it's less.
