noobie in the house
« on: February 01, 2014, 10:37:42 pm »
Hello folks,  looking for some help on deciding on a bike purchase. have found a raleigh bicycle in a pawn shop and can't seem to find any background on it.  Looks like a commuter/3 speed and has a label of "Ranson" on it.  Would appreciate any info or lead to follow up and find out more on this bike.  Thank you in advance.  Rob

I don't recognize that model and we don't have anything on it in our archives, but if it is a 3-speed Sturmey-Archer cycle, it's probably a decent bike.

If you look closely at the rear hub, you may be able to see a date code. Also if a genuine raleigh it will have the octagonal head bearing set, (where the handlebars go in), unless pre 1950.
