i~ve got a 26 in frame that LOOKS LIKE the old classic schwinn with three bars (two smaller ones running under a bigger one).  ya dig?  anyway a guy named KEN told me that this bike was NOT A SCHWINN and asked me for more clues about bike.  the sprocket does have the 4 holed schwinn circles on the crank sprocket.  it also has ROUND forks.  almost as if the forks and frame don~t match.  can anyone help me out with any info that could tell me what the heck this bike frame is?  thanks.

dave what I said or meant to say was that~s not a chicago schwinn number. The chinese schwinns and lots of other recent cantilevers have round forks and I have no idea what their serial numbers look like. Take some pictures will you and email them to me if you have no way of posting them. Maybe we can figure it out.

Warning!!! The reply by Milton Bergh is a scam! Enter that phone number into google and you~ll see. I received a similar response... word for word except a different name.

MISC what is it worth

I have an early 1950s Schwinn Traveler with a locking fork. I have the key and the original pamphlet that came with the bike. The locking fork still works. The bike has seen many street miles but can be restored; it has never been wrecked. Most parts are original. What is this worth? where can I find a buyer who might want this unusual find? thanks.

MISC Drake Bicycle??
« Reply #35 on: November 09, 2011, 09:09:59 am »
Posted on: 1-22-2009 by kim
I am trying to find any reference information regarding a bike my father left me.  The only other things I know about the bike are rim says "26x 1 3-8" made in England; front metal plate says "Drake" with a ship in the middle and crown above it; below ship says "made in England".  It is a women~s 3-speed bike blue with gold pinstripe and the center down-bar says "Guaranteed Genuine English Lightweight".  All brake assembly and wheel hubs bear the name "Sturmey Archer England".  The only numbers we can find are under the seat mount bar and those numbers are 6153B.  Any idea how old this is and what kind of value??  I have photo~s if someone wanted to look at the bike.  Thanks Kim

Here~s how to date your hub

Drake isn~t on Sheldon~s list of English 3 speeds.

All and any parts you would need for this are easy to find   just ask us anytime.

They made a lot of these bikes wheels hubs anything  is able to be found. parts are common and interchangable with all other Raleigh bikes.  Have fun with it.

Your Drake is worth about 50.00- 75.00  It~s a nice little city bike for around town crusing or commuting to and from work.  It is a basic good quality bike  pretty much the same frame and componets was made and just the name and decals and paint scheme was different between bikes   this is what you would call a tier two  or B- grade model but there was nothing b- grade about the quality.  The actual Raleigh bikes had dynohubs  light kits locking forks and better leather seats.  What I am saying is there are no Superbe model Drakes. These were made by Raleigh in Nottingham England in their huge factory.  Drake was a made up name by Raleigh there was no actual Drake bicycle company that Raleigh bought up. It is not like it~s a Humber or Rudge or Phillips name those were actual companies that Raleigh bought up or merged with. Drake could have been a brand that was made by Raleigh for a particular bicycle shop distributor chain as other brands were. I am not sure who commisioned the Drake from Raleigh and for what chain of stores.  So the actual story on Drake I don~t know.   Any shop or distributor for shops could order up so many bicycles with any name they wanted. Raleigh would make up badges and decals for the customer.

Anyways it uses the same bottom braket parts headset parts as ALL THE OTHER RALEIGH MADE BIKES DO. So it does not say Raleigh on it it does not use their Famous 531 Alloy lightweight tubing either. It is still a fine little easy to ride bike and these are collectable and going up in value.  I would buy this in a heartbeat at any rummage sale or estate - garage sale just to have and enjoy and restore it.   At the kerb it would dissappear in a heartbeat  by anybody.  ENGLISH 3 SPEED BICYCLES ARE HOT AND IN DEMAND AND A TON OF FOLKS HAVE A PASSION FOR THEM AS I DO.   SO YOU HAVE SOMETHING HERE!   We wuld love to see pictures of the bike and of course e- bay is unpredictable the bike could sell for more than what I quoted.

You can usually find skip-tooth chains on our E Bay. Just make sure of the size. Problem is going to be $$ shipping unless you know of someone who will be traveling over here.

You should also post a general location. You could easily spend half your budget on shipping if you didn~t shop close to home. There are regulars posting here from all over the world who could hook you up easily in that price range. If you~re in the Boston area you should buy from Vin- take a look at his For Sale listings.
