MIDDLEWEIGHT:   Rare ?? Schwinn Breeze posted by: Mike Gregg on 10/30/2009 at 3:44:55 PM
Hi, I have a 1972 Schwinn Breeze in near mint condition. I have searched many websites and have not found one like it. I think it is a deluxe model; it has a basket, bell and chrome fenders. The strange thing is that it is a five speed. All the ones I have seen are single or three speeds. Does anyone have knowledge on this bike?
Thanks, Mike

Mike, one of my favorite resources, the Schwinn Lightweight Data Book, appears to have gone off the web, but there may be other places where Schwinn consumer catalogs can be consulted. If you find one, would you post and let me know, please?
I'm sure that the chrome fenders were factory standard and the basket and bell were aftermarket. I believe, but would not testify under oath, that the Breeze could be ordered in those days with a choice of coaster brake, Sturmey three-speed, or five speed Schwinn-approved derailleur from France, probably Huret. If I'm right, I agree it's odd you don't see more of them. The bike boom was getting under way, and maybe folks who wanted derailleurs were going for the 27" Suburbans and Collegiates?
