FOR SALE:   Columbia Sterling posted by: David on 10/31/2009 at 12:24:07 PM
I have just acquired a Vintage Columbia Sterling from My Uncle and it is a womans model. I cannot find a definate age in this sites Columbia serial number chart!
I have learned that some bikes have a year stamped on the rear hub and you add a year for the bikes age or something to that effect but this one doesnt have anything stamped on the rear, instead it has Germany, and what looks like 491 stamped on the front hub! Could this be a 1950 bike??
Certainly looks old enough nice big fenders and a Columbia chain guard and has Columbia on the seat that says By Persons USA. Bike also has no headbadge but has a columbia logo on the frame on the seat tube! Serial is a puzzle as it is located on the right front of the handlebar tube, it seems to be 0 or O followed by 262 and either an I or a 1? O2621? 0262I? Guessing 02621 other then that I do not see any letters and this sites serial number chart only has letters and numbers not just numbers? Tires Carlisle Tire & Rubber Division, Carlisle PA, Lightening DART!!!??
What year is it, how much can I expect it to sell for if I sold it??? Thanks David...
