Need help to identify two bicycles just purchased. One is a Hiawatha, chrome frame, tank and rack. There are two sets of numbers WG.3.817 and 298154. The other is a Hawthorne also with two sets of numbers. R or B 368147 and 31608R. Can anyone tell me anything about them? by: 71.130.48.131 |
Hi, I don't really know much about vintage bikes, but I just recently bought a Murray Classic Westport and would like to know any information on it. The bike is a balloon tire in pretty good condition except for a few dings and light surface rust on the fenders and paint chipping here and there. (Only other thing is that the bike is a bit dusty everywhere else). The tires are Kenda whitewall tires 26 X 2.125 (The owner said that they were original), and I found a serial number or something near the handle bars, M0T0160107, if that helps any. I've tried looking it up, but I haven't found much info about Murrays online. All I got is that Murrays are cheap bikes. Lol. If anyone has any information about this it'd be really helpful. Thanks |

My guess is your bike is circa 1980.I have 2 Westports one very much like yours.I call them retro cruisers.I have a bunch, I just like the way they look.Sometimes I do them up with mudflaps, lights and mirrors etc.Anything to make them look like something a kid might put together in the 50s or 60s.I'll be glad to email some pictures. Enjoy your bike. Spike by: 24.58.64.136 |
sadly that is a vintage wht, 1985-90 or so. those sold new for $109 not much collector value. its a $50 bike by: 24.236.217.44 |
Thanks for the info Spike and Gary. I don't really mind that it's cheap. I guess that means no one would really want to steal it anytime soon right? That might be a good thing. I'm just worried bout it breaking down. I actually intended to give it to my girlfriend who is in love with these kind of bikes and kinda pulled me into it. (Gosh I wish it was a girl's bike, she's kinda short) I think I'll polish it up a bit and save it for Christmas. And I'd love to see those pics Spike. Maybe somewhere I can find a decently priced girl's bike and I'll just keep this cheapo to myself. I'm a bit tight on cash tho. Haha. Thanks for the info yall. by: 68.88.79.74 |
go look for a real antique ladies bike frame. Paint it up, strip the westport, and build the vintage bike. Neither are barn burners in value, so your only making what you want from what you can get. I have huffy 50s model ladies frames free if you were close. by: 24.236.217.44 |

I have a '69 Schwinn Panther thats pretty rough, the paint is just falling off. My question is this, I would love to repaint it the original color but I'm worried about ruining the value. I'm not looking to resell it, but I would hate to make it worthless. Any suggestions? Thanx by: 71.115.46.124 |
