We picked up a lot of really neat vintage bikes dating from 1931 to 1967 models ranging from Hawthorne's to basic Sears brand but all in great ridable shape. With this lot we received a 24" Columbia Thunderbolt, I did some searching online only to not find anything referring to this model of Columbia. I am unsure of the year the serial # (K062573, found by the left rear drop out) makes it one of two years that I could decipher, either a 1946 or a 1961, how do I determine which year it is? It does have the tank with the battery powered horn in it which still works. Also how unusual is this bicycle? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
fairly common, I would say 60's. There are several on this website in the picture database by: 74.243.225.176 |
Thank you for your reply I only found 2 pictures of a similar brand it they look very different. It has a neat headbadge that is open, no headlights in the tank, intact decals on one side. From the history I got from the owner it is all original right down to the tires. http://a712.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/101/l_cc14d3f37465289a22629498986cd737.jpg |

I was thinking about that time myself, but my headbadge is different. It is the square flat (just painted on graphics)one. Also my brake arm says Elgin. Could a Higgins have a Elgin brake arm? Does anyone when they started using the smaller square headbadge. I have posted a picture of it. |
I am looking for the age and any other info I can get on my JC Higgins. |
Sorry above picture link does not work. I could not figure out how to change it so I am posting. |
