I am planing on installing an old bendix 2 spd kick back hub on my old 1951 fat tire schwinn. I am building it up with old school bmx equipment. Is the teeth spacing on the bendix cog the same as a late 90's gt bmx chain wheel. I want to make sure I can use a chain compatable for both. by: 71.223.165.246 |
I have this hub on my 61 Columbia and had no problem using regular replacement chain. Does the sprocket look different? If so, you'll have to check it. Mine worked fine with regular brand x 'modern' chain, although I'm not sure what your front bmx sprocket looks like or uses... by: 24.213.204.56 |

I am rebuilding by daughter's she is now 37 and need a little help the tire size that come on it was 26x175 I am having trouble finding that size but have found some 26x225 will they work. thanks for any help gary by: 216.61.209.16 |
The short answer is yes. More info: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/tires/559.html But Harris doesn't carry a lot of bargains... Unless you want a cruiser repro, Xmart has tires that will fit. Actually they sometimes have a decent cruiser tire too. The question is how she will use them. Don't buy more tread than you absolutely need, because it's more effort to push around. Get slicks if you're staying in the street. Most bike shops have a street tire in a 1.5 or 1.9 width. by: 66.225.39.86 |
My boyfriend and I came across an old schwinn that we are interested in restoring, and would like some more information about it. It is a red/white mens 24", serial # F253832. The head badge has a plane and a train on it and has chicago in small letters across the bottom. I came across some info that said that indicates a bike made after 1965, but this bike seems older than that. Can anyone help me out. Much thanks!! by: 24.238.226.113 |
Julie, Your bicycle is older than that. This website has the code info you are looking for. http://www.bunchobikes.com/serialnumber3.htm by: 72.66.236.98 |
Serial numbers are here on oldroads, too. Just click on General Resources at the top of any page. by: 70.19.146.81 |
