WANTED:   sunshine bicycle posted by: Jonathan on 7/21/2007 at 2:25:37 PM
I have found a "Sunshine Waterloo" mens bike that is in fair to poor condition. I am in need of information about the date of production, as well as a source for spare parts. Specifically I am in need of a chain-guard, a one piece crank (arms only) as well as handle bars and stem.

Hello, There was one for sale C$30 in Merrickville Ontario last summer. The frame was rather bent but the headbadge was perfect. I'll try to locate the photos, for you to use as reference, in the fall when I have some time. I'll be trvelling to Calgary end of september; where a friend has one in good restorable condition. I'll photo it.
I would like to share info that you gather about the bike company.
Good luck.
regards, Murray

I came across a couple of these bikes and found out this about the company...."A merger between Massey Harris and H.V. McKay of Sunshine Harvester Works of Australia in 1929, the subsequent Sunshine-Waterloo Company Ltd. built a 285,000 square foot plant in Waterloo, Ontario in 1930. The company was involved in manufacturing related primarily to farming equipment before the war. The company diversified during the 1930s adding the production of baby carriages, bicycles, tricycles and roller skates. In 1939 the manufacturing converted to war-related production army trucks, smoke bombs, shells, mines, grenades and gun mounts. Following the war, market changes led to the company adding office products, stoves, shelving and lockers. Massey-Ferguson Industries Limited purchased H.V. McKay PYT Limited in 1955, acquiring the Sunshine-Waterloo Company in the process.

This association allowed the company to expand in the office equipment market leading to a switch in focus in 1956 almost entirely to the manufacture of steel office furniture. The name was changed to Sunshine Office Equipment Limited in 1961"
I got most of this information from the National Archives(Can) Here's a picture of one of them. All original except the paint.

I recently found an older Murray Cruiser, atleast that's what is says on the chain gaurd. It's in pretty good condition which makes me think it's not all that old or worth much, but it's a cool little bike that I'd like to fix up. I'm hoping that some one can help me out with finding out what year it's from. There's not too much info online about Murray, what I have found hasn't been my bike exactly. I've looked through the gallery here but didn't find a cruiser. Anything would be great!
