It is English. There may be a 2-digit date code on the rear hub.
Post this picture under the English Roadster discussion area where the English bike experts are.

Can't tell you too much but I believe Hercules did make their own 3 spd hubs for a while don't know if they were date stamped.Around 1960 Hercules was absorbed by Tubing Industries and built in the Raleigh plant. These would have Sturmey Archer 3 speeds. That would have to be pretty unusual for me to pay $150.

good call again Spike. They did make their own hubs before the conglomeration. Sheldon Brown mentioned them in (if memory serves) a discussion of hybrid gearing, because the Herc hubs had a threaded driver which would allow attaching a freewheel. It may have been as early as 55 or 6 they started using S-A.

i could use some help in finding out more about this bike i have bought. it is a Monark Silver King "Rocket". it looks similar to Silver King Rockets from the 1930's. the model number is - 0345 and the seriel number is - A1740682. i am more concerned about the age than value of this bike. i will probably ride it in parades.
i would appreciate any information on this wonderful ride. i do have pics if anyone would like to see the bike if that is needed for more info too. thanks bill

I have been searching for the proper identification of an old bike I aquired last year. I have searched databases using the numbers I located underneath the pedal sprocket: R3044 and nothing comes up. Any ideas out there? Any help in identifying this bicycle is appreciated.
