I just bought what appears to be shelby/hiawatha scout.I havent been able to find any info about this model. It does have a skip tooth with springer front.I'm brand new to this hobby and any help would be appreciated.Got a steal on this bike and it is rideable. Am looking to restore. Was told it was pre-war 41 vintage. Does this sound about right?

I need help identifying a vintage bicycle, at least pre 1974. It is missing the headbadge but was fastened with two vertically placed rivets. It has twin top tubes that run from the neck to the rear axle mount. Twin tubes also below that intersect with the upper tubes just before the vertical seat post section. All connections are brazed, except the rear axel mounts that are inserted into the frame ends. Serial number is on bottom crank housing, R6333731. It also has two small holes on the back of the neck. Was originally a bright red.

MIDDLEWEIGHT:   1958 Starlet Rear rack posted by: jason on 3/7/2008 at 3:13:55 PM
Hi, does anyone know what kind of rear rack the 1958 starlet came with? I cannot find a good image online of this rack and I need to buy one. Obviously, I want to buy the correct rack, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have one for sale? Is this rack supposed to be a 9hole?

Additionally, Does anyone know if Schwinn made a late 50's bike basket? My bike has a basket on it and it seems to be manufactured to fit the front truss rods perfectly. Was this an aftermarket basket back in the day?

your help is greatly appreciated, thanks, J (from Southern CA)

9-hole is correct. I'll see if I can email you a picture of a 56 (been having trouble with attachments).
I'll be interested to hear about baskets. My guess is that Wald would have made a Schwinn-approved model for dealer installation- does yours have any markings at all?
