I saw a 1975 Scwinn Scrambler at a yard sale and the guy only wanted 10.00. It was slightley rusty(pedals) and the scrambler writing was slightly scratched off. It was black and yellow. Should I have bought it?

Any tiume you see a good solid bike for ten bucks and have it on you don't pass it up; you can always get at least that much back if you don't want it. And though it might not be mint, the bike was probably pretty solid... My first bike when I was a kid was a Scrambler i pulled outa the junk! The thing rocked, and survived god knows how many spills. I vaquely recall riding barefoot down the stairs on the way to the beach. They made bikes to last back then. Now if they had only made helmets, too, i wouldn't have dis double vision...!

Hi. I had a General once, my first real BMX bike [the scrambler was more like a stingray]. It was a good sturdy bike, not too heavy, black with a chrome fork. Nondescript sidepulls for rear brakes. Mine was a Shadow, and I think it was a low end model, but it stood up pretty well. I think the company's manufacturing may have been based overseas during the 1980's [when mine was made i think]. I also know that a company called General made mopeds and minibikes, but i am not sure if they are related.
