From what I've read here in the past, it's quite real and rather rare! I'm sure others more knowlegable will chime in but by all means, hang on to that one! Cheers! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 69.39.171.50 |
Real... by: 24.224.181.22 |
The Real Deal. Delightfully rare and special all chrome models in 26 inch and 28 inch wheel versions Badged up as Raleigh's and other names Raleigh owned and used.Describe the bike what size wheels what do the decals (transfers) say? Hold on to it. All that was different was the finish being chrome. by: 205.188.117.71 |
What are the odds I bought a Chrome 66 womans Sports today. Original except for tires, nice B72 saddle decals are fair.I've heard chrome womans are even more rare than mens. Also Friday I found a pretty nice 67 Blue womans Sports thrown out by the street.Nice paint and stripes, poor decals and missing seat and post.I thought it was unusual with a chrome chain guard with no decal. by: 24.58.64.136 |
I own a men's 21" all-chrome 1966 Raleigh Sports. Link to pic below. Rumor has it that these were given to Raleigh dealers in the early to mid 60s if they met certain sales quotas, but I don't know for sure if that's true. Neal |
Hi Neal, I think the 'All chrome' models were available to Raleigh Dealers who reached sales targets on a 'one only' basis, otherwise dealers like Halfords would have had dozens and local bike shops would not have got a look in. Matthew - dazzled by: 82.13.45.174 |
Remember this one? |
And since they were olde.... and english... and certainly on the road this year... Seriously... if you ever get the opportunity to see The Rolling Stones, DO IT. Amazing show! I should have half of Mr. Jagger's energy at MY age! Later! Larry "Boneman" Bone PS: Cool word match anth-spam feature enabled! EXCELLENT VIN!!!!! by: 69.39.170.83 |
Has anyone seen the new Electra Amsterdam? Not exactly an English roadster but something close from an American company. I want one! by: 64.201.65.22 |
LINK??? I just went through the Electra site and saw nothing of it. Yet. Knowing Electra for what they are and owning some of their products, I'm sure if nothing else, it will be of excellent quality in both materials and construction! Cheers! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 69.39.171.50 |

Thanks for the link Robert. I first saw this bike in a 3 page ad in Bicycling. As you see, the Electra site has no mention. I think they are a little behind. I e-mailed them but as yet have no reply. by: 64.201.65.22 |
Yeah, thanks Robert! A most interesting machine for certain. Aluminium even. Aside from not having an horizontal top tube, it's downright traditional! :-) I'm going to guess it will sell for around $500. We shall see. Cheers! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 69.39.168.246 |
Too bad it dosen't have rod brakes or a front drum brake. I'd sure consider it for my wife who dosen't like complicated bkes. by: 4.18.85.3 |
Hmmm... interesing point. What would give it an interesting flavour as well as some excellent stopping capacity would be a disc up front. Don't let the Nexus with coaster fool you though. It's got a lot of bite. If I can lockup the 3" tyre on the back of my Rat Fink with it...... ;-) Later! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 69.39.168.61 |
Electra tells me that catalogs for the Amsterdam should be at the dealer in a week or so. The classic models have lights and fenders and a steel frame. Sport models have no light and fenders and aluminum frames. All have 700 wheels. by: 64.201.65.22 |
The full 1978 Raleigh catalogue (for the U.S. market) is now available for viewing at The Headbadge: http://www.jaysmarine.com/TH_raleigh_cat_70_80.html Catalogue scans have been generously provided by fellow forum member Al Mason, a.k.a. Roccobike. Enjoy! Take care, -Kurt by: 172.164.72.30 |
These don't come up often and if you are doing a perfect restoration, the price is fair. ebay #7230639550 NMA of course by: 24.224.181.22 |
