I had an absolutely perfect Ross Girl's bike with the flowered banana seat and someone got permanent marker on the seat, so I need a new seat, new bike, or instructions on how to remove marker/ink from vinyl. I think I'm going to go crazy until this gets resolved--This bike was in absolutely mint condition! PLEASE HELP!

Ive had luck removing marker with a citrus based cleaner. You have to be careful about rubbing to hard or you fade out the original material. I wash it all first with soap and water. When you dry it look at your towel and see if you're pulling color off. Just go sparingly with your cleaner and don't over do it.

Alcohol will remove permanent ink. It will also smear it if you are not careful. Try a small area with a clean rag to see if it will come off without smearing. Good luck.

I am looking for a fender brace for my Monark Super Deluxe. One of the front braces is flat on the end to accomodate the double-spring type fork.......and mine is missing. Also searchin' for a front fender ornament and spring fork bushings. can anyone help? Cash or trade. I have some extra Monark parts....

Hey, I had a very similar problem when I was fixing up a '53 Holiday. I found out that these braces are pretty hard to come by. So what I did was take a set of balloon tire fender braces (any kind) and cut them in the middle with a set of tin snips. You will be left with two halves. Get some threaded fender rivets and mount the halves into the holes, and feed them into the front axle. When the rivets are tight and the nut is tightly holding these "braces" to axle, your result is as if you had one whole brace. Voila!

Thanks for the tip! I found some, by the way. I forgot to search my stash of "parts" fenders. DOH! Thanks also to Ray who contacted me promptly with some he had for sale. Still searchin' for that front fender ornament though....i HONESTLY don't have one of those, unless my girlfriend let's me "borrow" the one off of hers........doubtful.

FOR SALE: Where is it?The actual bike used in the movie?

Reading all these postings about the Pee-Wee Herman bike made me wonder Where the actual bike used is right now? Who has the show prop?Is this for sale? I know this would be cheating to track down the actual bike but at least you could say that you have the origonal. (He reminds me of an old boss I had, only more tame)

Well, I was wondering the exact same thing. My advice is to call Warner Bros., 'cause that's who made the film. I know that this was a late '40's to early '50's Schwinn DX (highly customized of course!).

No, My old boss never rode a bike but he was crazier than Pee- Wee. I was just thinking about all the show props that get destroyed, lost, neglected . The actual General Lee car the studio owned from Dukes of Hazzard was left in a shed to deteoriate after they stoped filming years ago. I think of all the folks who have put together show quality cars and here the origonal rotted for years. I would be surprised if Warner Bros. knew or even cared about it. Probably not and here we are trying to make these up.Perhaps somewhere somebody has it, The K.I.T.T. car from Knight Rider poped up in Hemmings Motor News and it went to auction! It's not my bag, but good luck to you all.

For what it's worth, I was at a auto swap meet in Phoenix a few years ago and an old guy had two bikes for sale. He said that one was the original Pee Wee bike. The other was made by the same guy but it was a Capatain America bike...a chopped low rider painted like an American flag. He said he got them in California. If I remember correctly he wanted several thousand dollars for the bikes. Nobody bought them. Couldn't tell if this guy was legit or full of crap. Thought I'd pass the story on.....

There were actually a couple of them
posted by Kyle on 4/19/2000 at 2:33:46 PM
| If you watch the movie closely, there are actually a couple of different bikes used. The main bike that we all remember has all the gadgets and such, and the other is used in the dream sequence at the beginning of the film (where he wins the tour de france racing against a bunch of guys on department-store-quality Murray 10-speeds). The dream sequence bike has much less equipment on it. And a third different bike entirely was pictured on the original movie poster and the cover of the video.
There was probably more than one copy of the main bike, too, since they often make several because props often get destroyed or damaged in filming. (Have any idea how many general lee's were used for the dukes of hazard?). If fact, if you watch one scene closely -- when Pee Wee pulls about 800 ft of chain out of the bikes panniers -- you can see that the chain is ripping the plastic pannier lid to shreds. (If you look really really close, you'll also see there is no bottom to the pannier box, and the chain is passing all the way through.)
Yes, in case you are wondering, I've watched the movie about 80 times, proving that I do have too much time. |

Look at the numbers underneath the crank dropout, or behind either side of the rear wheel dropout (where you put the back wheel into the frame). Then look at the Schwinn serial number chart.
