FOR SALE: Bikes for sale... Chicago/Milwaukee area
posted by: Adam
on 8/16/2000 at 8:59:45 AM
| These are bikes that I would love to eBay, but would hate to have to ship. My laziness could be your gain! I'm am located between Milwaukee and Chicago (draw a line and I'm right in the middle). If anyone local is interested and can do a pick-up, please e-mail.
1960's Murray Meteor Flite... Still has the tank with lights but is missing the lenses. Straight rear and front racks. Paint is about 6 - 7. Rims are pretty clean. Previous owner removed the fenders (I don't have them) and put 26 x 2.125 whitewalls on the bike, which looks cool but they're a little too big for the bike..... $75
1976 Schwinn Heavy-Duti... I don't really want to sell this one, but if anyone's interested... looks EXACTLY like the one currently on eBay except mine is missing the rear fender (front fender is there). Off-brand tires, rims are nice and clean (heavy duty spokes!)..... $100 / firm.
1970 Schwinn Suburban... Men's frame 5-speed. Very clean original condition. Still has full fenders. Paint is that rootbeer brown color. Needs innertubes..... $50
1977(?) Motobecane Mirage... Silver paint, 10 speed, bike looks original to me except for it has a Peugeot saddle. Has new tires.... $50
Prices may be flexible (except for the Heavy-Duti). I live in an apartment and need to re-claim some space! Still working on getting some pictures, but figure when I do, eBay will be that much more tempting... :) Delivery may be possible for the cost of the gas. Will consider a trade for a non-repainted Stingray! |

| Well... I called my local Schwinn dealer today and found out that they will box up a bike to ship for $20. So in the interest of making some more room around here and maybe helping someone out... I'm willing to "eat" the $20 packing fee. So if anyone is interested but not local, these bikes are now available for delivery. (Buyer pays actual shipping though). The Suburban has been sold. Thanks for reading! |

| I wish I had a web site or adress to give you but I'm at a lost right now.I do know that the solid rubber tires you talk about are still made,so don't give up.I'm told that they make the tires in a long roll just cut off what you need and make a loop.these are the same used for the high wheel bikes,If I were you I would put a post under that group. They should be able to tell you who makes the tires and how to install them. |

| I don't know if these are close or not, but I have some wheels in my cellar that are stamped: "orgo air king 10" x 1.75" the ohio rubber company". I do not see a slit where it was pieced together. In the box was an envelope from march 2, 1944 with a food ration in it. Do you have any clue to what these came off of? If you do, please let me know, I'm curios. Thanx, Christian |
WANTED: Trade NOS Schwinn Red Glitter Rubber Midget Seat for NOS Blue Glitter Rubber Midget Seat
posted by: Steve
on 8/15/2000 at 7:19:14 AM
| I'm looking to trade a Schwinn NOS red glitter rubber seat for a NOS blue glitter rubber seat. I've seen these seats on old advertisements for Schwinn accessory seats. The red seat is mint and has never been mounted on a bike. I'm restoring a 1968 blue midget and would like to put a blue accessory seat on it. I've seen used blue ones but this is the first red one I've come across and it's NOS!. These seats are same material as the '67 and early '68 midget seats in white except for the glitter colored covering in red and blue. I have pictures available. Thanks!! |

| I have just come into a few fenders. I have several 27" Schwinn lightweight fenders, most are in the original package but have some slight storage wear in the form of light hazing or surface rust. NO PITS! They will clean up easily and are really nice. How does $5 each sound plus shipping!
I also have a set of Wald 20" (yes 20") balloon fenders still in the package, with the brackets. These things are wide! Make me an offer. Please! |

| OK, I wouldn't mind keeping the new Brooks saddle. $200 firm w/o the new Brooks saddle. This would be a very pretty bicycle w/ those NOS fenders and chainguard. I just don't have the room, and I like customizing newer bicycles w/ alloy parts. |

WANTED: Want old upright (Collegiate?)

| I'm looking for an older bike to ride around town. Nothing fancy. I'm looking for function rather than style and looks so it doesn't have to be in perfect condition. One model that has caught my eye is the Schwinn Collegiate. I like the chainguard and fenders. I want at least 3 speeds and the taller the better (I'm 6'4"). Also of interest to me is the old Schwinn Speedster and 3-speed Racer.
If anyone could help I would appreciate it. I'm also looking in thrift stores and such but I figured I'd post here too.
I'm in the Los Angeles area.

| Hey Carl, You might also want to look at the Schwinn Suburban. They were made between 1970 and 1980. They were the upright tourist style, came in larger frame sizes than the Collegiate and Speedster, had 27" wheels and depending on the year, were 1, 3, 5, or 10 speeds. |
