WANTED:   old "beach cruiser" posted by: kathryn on 8/3/2000 at 11:07:24 AM
:) admittedly, I know nothing about old bikes but found this site and I think it's great!
I am looking for an old "beach cruiser" for a friend's birthday present. I have looked all around locally (Denver) and can find nothing. I don't know exactly how to specify the type but my friend is 5'10" and asked for an "old beach cruiser." It doesn't need to be pretty, it just needs to have all the parts to make it go. I can pay up to $200.00 (including shipping) Thanks!

Are you looking for a boy's or girl's frame? Basic (bare frame) or equipped model (with tank, rack, shock, ...) ?
Middleweight (with 1.75" wide tires) or Balloon tire (with 2.125" tires) ?
I have a Schwinn Starlet for sale and a number of nice basic frames that could be built to order well within your price range. Email if interested.

MISC:   Schwinn posted by: Frank on 8/2/2000 at 3:55:21 PM
I found an old Schwinn Bike frame rusting underneath the steps of my house. How can I tell if it's of any value? Where is the serial number located? Model number?
Thank you.

RE:MISC:   Schwinn posted by racerrex on 8/2/2000 at 9:30:11 PM
the serial # will be either a)under the frame where the pedals are b)on the drop-out by the rear axle c)on the steering head tube in front d) non at all(the oldest model- pre war didnt have serial #'s) If it has the pedal crank it may have a mfg. date stamped in it. Of coarse I have been wrong before.

RE:RE:MISC:   Schwinn posted by bob on 8/3/2000 at 7:54:09 AM
Prewar models DO have serial numbers. They are located under the crank hanger. Prewar SN records were lost in a fire and do not appear on the list.
