MISC:   John Deere Bicycle posted by: Edd on 9/1/2000 at 6:01:03 PM
Question for all the collectors....I have a ladies John Deere 3 speed bicycle. I was told that there were only about 1000 of them made. Are they worth anything? Since they are late 70's (I think) and Taiwan made, I was thinking its probably not. But I guess this is the only time John Deere had a bike under their name. Anyone have any input on the value?

RE:MISC:   John Deere Bicycle posted by rd on 9/2/2000 at 8:08:39 AM
There was many, many John Deere bikes made. John Deere sod bikes at 3 diferent times. There are 26" green bikes, yellow or white bikes and blue bikes. there are 20" green bikes and yellow bikes. there are more than one shade of green used n the bikes. You can find the bikes without a whole lost of trouble up north because they just didn't sell to well and some dealers gave them away with a purchase of a big machine. I have heard it said that each dealer just got one and there was just so many made. It just isnt so. I have several of them. The most I have given is $150.00 and it was for a blue one whch are harder to come by. but did see some of the 20" sell for several hundred on Ebay. They were made by seeral companys.

RE:MISC:   John Deere Bicycle posted by jb on 9/2/2000 at 3:49:18 PM
your value will depend on the condition and which bike. The white or yellow one (white with yellow stripes) are the least sought one. The green is the most sought one. The black racer is not a popular bike. The rarest one is the blue bikes. The yellow 20" is highly prized for some reason. There is a green 20" and a Industrial green 20". ook on Ebay under John Deere bikes and bicycles both and you will get some idea if you want to go that route but you can pick up the bikes for less if you are patient. $125.00 to $175.00 are the genera range at auctions and grage sales. NO they were not a limited supply made they just didn't sell. Noone went to a JD dealer to buy a bike.

FOR SALE:   NOS Wald rack for a 20" bike posted by: brent on 9/1/2000 at 2:31:14 PM
I just found this at a flea market and thought that someone might be interested in it. Judging by the length of the legs, I would say it will only fit a 20inch wheeled bike. Pictures are available at http://bacoes.tripod.com/rack.jpg and http://bacoes.tripod.com/wald-rack.jpg

FOR SALE:   Raleigh Space Rider posted by: Joe on 9/1/2000 at 6:51:16 AM
Does anyone know anything about a British Raleigh childs bicycle called the "Space Rider" It looks like a scaled down (24" tires) version of a "Sports" with coaster rear and caliper front brakes. The bike was made in 1969.

Is there anyone producing replica Raleigh fender/frame decals?

I have a men's J C Higgins bike, black, made in Austria.
It looks like a normal old men's bike. Some one told me it
is made in the 50's and is considered a collectors item or
antique. I would like to find out if there is any truth to
this, or if this bike has any value at all. I would apprecite
it if you know anything about such a bike that you would e-mail
me at pc133@mail.com and let me know . thanks so much.

FOR SALE:   Krate Stuff posted by: MrBig on 8/31/2000 at 6:50:53 AM
I don't know a darn thing about old bikes, don't care to learn, don't care about the historic value or what this bike might mean to someone who had one as a kid.
I've never even searched for one, but I just tripped over this Krate at an estate sale. Fortunately, I had enough money to buy it out from another guy who really wanted to restore it and keep it as a memory from his youth. But I could really care less about the bike.
How much is it worth?
(Please respond ASAP as I am planning my retirement around this bike).

RE:FOR SALE:   Krate Stuff posted by Greed on 8/31/2000 at 8:34:13 AM
Sell it to the guy who really wanted it for twice you paid for it....or better, strip off all the original parts, sell them for outrageous prices. Buy repop parts for the frame and then sell that bike as an original to the guy who really wanted it. Do this as often as you can. Snap everything up at yardsales and swap meets. Have stringers buying up everthing in sight fcr you. Keep jacking up those prices. Don't worry if you get caught in lies or get a crappy rep, there is always another sucker out there. And never, ever negotiate with a guy who wants a bike. Never donate bikes to organizations that can get them into the hands of poor or disabled people. Do this and you'll have the retirement you deserve.

Dear Mister Big--Since you don't care a thing about it, why not give it to some 10-year-old who doesn't have a bike?

Who's the bigest baddest fish in the pond? posted by ChristopherRobin on 8/31/2000 at 5:31:01 PM
You my friend are a large part of why I make darned sure, that I am the one sitting there on the step 4 to 6 hours ahead of everyone elso. Before the sale is even started I am there with my big book and I am carrying enough cash to meet any challenge that should arise. Lucky for you that I was not in the area or I would have gotten it first and then you would know as the other person did then what it feels like. You will never amass enough old bikes to retire on. Value depends on condition, you could buy a book at the local bookstore called "collecting Sting ray bicycles" in the cycling section. You did well but I sense something.

(I agree with Kevin too.) Don't give in to the dark side of the force. Luke!

I stop homeless people and say Dude, You need a bike! They wind up with a Free Dunelt.
Then there was Art, who had his geared up so neat, so cool and inventive that I marveled at it. He flew on this thing! Flew.

Don't violate the rules of (bike) Karma

RE:FOR SALE:   Krate Stuff posted by MrBig on 8/31/2000 at 6:04:10 PM
Sorry guys. That was just kind of a satire under a fake name (I know, "If you can't use your real name then don't post").
Anyways, really I'm more like Mr Little. I know a lot has been said in the past (esp on the Schwinn site) about the "poor crying little fish". I guess this little fish just wanted to cry a little. Okay- I am over it now.
Happy collecting, even if it is just the scratched up bottom of the line stuff!

I used to stop by the Schwinn site once in a while years back. The postings of the bizarre and imature drowned out the decent folks, so I quit visiting altogether. Perhaps because the Schwinn site is down we're in for a run of really weird annonymous stuff -- typical for that site.
