| Sounds like a great find, Jeroen! A bit more information would be a great help. Can you find a serial number? Where is it? Any decals, silkscreens or badging on the frame or chainguard? Does it have an actual "Steering Wheel" or was that a mis-terminology for Handle Bars? Can you take photos and post the URL for them? Anything more you can provide would be a great help. BTW--Did you check the Photo Archives on this site? There is a plethora of informaton to be gleaned by doing a bit of research on your end.

FOR SALE: James/Phillips Bikes

| For several years I have been salvaging bikes, primarily English Touring bikes. Over time, I have restored nothing, ridden little, and have developed a feeling of quilt over having usable bikes rusting in my back yard. For starters, is there any interest in a woman's James (SA date 8-54) or a woman's Phillips (SA date 3-70)? Both are rather intact. I will be pleased to provide more exact descriptions to interested restorers. |

| The James sounds interesting. You don't run across too many of those. It's a seldom seen or heard about name or marque. The Phillips I have like yours was made by Raleigh but I bought it for the decals and I put derailer gears on it. |

| Chris Robbins, in describing a bicycle I don't know the anatomical terms or what's important. Here's an attempt at describing the James, and I hope I don't turn you off with the description. Frame, Fenders, Chain Guard - Original black paint; white trim on read fender; faded but little discernible rust; some red plastic tape on fenders to spell a name; reflector on rear fender says "BIKE." Name plate on steering tube ("The James Cycle Co. Ltd.") intact and decals on seat tube ("The Famous James") and chain guard ("James") somewhat scratched but still very ledgible. Brakes and Levers and Crank Set - Chrome mostly gone and hardware badly rusted. Handle Bar - Left side bent in about 3". Rims - appear to be true; some rust. Spoke counts: Front - 32; Rear 40. Cables - disconnected or frozen. Seat - Intact Weldments - For Tire Pump (Not available); No Kickstand. You sound like the type of person who could put the bike into play. I live on Cape Cod MA and travel a little bit in the Northeast. Provided I can get the bike to you, I will accept your first offer. Bob |
