MISC:   gold girls 1966? slik chic w/overdrive kickback 2 speed posted by: claudia robertson on 1/13/2001 at 7:01:46 PM
hello, my stingray that i have had since it came to me one christmas morning in l96? just sits in my garage. it is in at least average condition altho it has a small dent on the rear fender. it has the original everything including the speedometer and odometer, banana seat, handlebars, pedals, tires etc. i want to know if it is worth it to sell it to someone who will honor and take better care of it as it ages. it is a great piece of memorabilia for a collector. anybody know anything? where can you find the year it was made? thanks! claudia

RE:MISC:   gold girls 1966? slik chic w/overdrive kickback 2 speed posted by MNSmith on 1/14/2001 at 2:09:58 AM
You can find the serial numbers on the left side of the bike right where the rear wheel bolts. Post the number here for someone to interpet it for you or compare it to the serial number charts on this web site. That will tell you the exact year.

To see what it is worth, it might be wise to do a search on the completed auctions of Ebay. This way you can see what people will pay for comparable bikes.

As far as getting into the hands of a collecter who will honor it, that might be a little more difficult. Some collectors actually buy girls bikes so they could use the parts to repair their boys bikes. Good Luck!

If it has sentimental value to you at all, KEEP IT. Most Slik Chiks end up being parted out because the wheels, fenders, saddles, chainguards, etc., fit boy's bikes and most bicycle collectors are boys (or were, once).

i used to use girl's bikes for parts also. but not anymore.
now i restore them also and put them in my collection. if you decide you do not want to keep the bike, give me an e-mail and maybe we can deal. thanx, christian

MISC:   C olumbia model 32 posted by: Howard on 1/12/2001 at 8:24:36 AM
Does anybody know anything about a Columbia model 32 mfg by Pope with patent dates from the 1880's? I can't find out much. I just posted more details under "Vintage Lightweights." It looks really old(90 years, maybe), but has narrow tires. Help! Howard

RE:MISC:   C olumbia model 32 posted by Joel on 1/12/2001 at 8:52:11 AM
Things were changing pretty fast during that time. It was probably made within 10 years of the last patent date. The book "Collecting and Restoring Antique Bicycles" has lots of info on 1800s bikes and info to help date them.

RE:RE:MISC:   C olumbia model 32 posted by Howard on 1/13/2001 at 6:53:40 AM
Thanks for the reply, Joel. I'll try to find that at the library. I only have a few bikes that could be called collectable, so I haven't bought any bike books yet. I think I'm going to sell the Columbia if I can find out what it's worth. My weakness is antique motor scooters like Cushman and Vespa. Howard

Ok, before you all start getting on my case, Vin already warned me about spelling Krate with a "C". This is a new project for me- been building with Campagnolo with a "C" for 25 years. This Orange Krate weighs more than all my other bikes combined but I'm now getting into heavy metal!
