MISC:   Need the name of a hub from an old Columbia posted by: Wayne on 9/11/2005 at 7:53:31 PM
I need to know if someone can tell me what the name is on the hub off an older Columbia bike I have and tell me more about the hub! Stamped on the hub is what I believe is "Komet or Komel" and Super. It has F.& S. E also stamped above the name. This hub came off an older Columbia single speed beach cruiser. It has 18 spoke hole eyelits. It is complete with bolts and brake arm. Also stamped on the hub is 161 and 36. Can anyone tell me more about this hub and what it might be worth? Please send me an e-mail at snippper@sbcglobal.net Wayne

Komet, 36 hole (18 on each side, I trust,) 1961? If you find someone who needs it for a restoration, give it to them or trade for a part you need.

Sounds like what you have is a 60's or 70's 36 spoke Sachs (F&S) Komet Super, these were quite common back then, and unless it's in mint condition, it's really not a highly desirable piece. These were used on many bike, of all makes. These were just your everyday coaster brake hub, although they were most common on imports.

You can check out either Memory Lane Classics (www.memorylane-classics.com), or Maple Island Sales(www.mapleislandsales.com); they both carry a variety of Schwinn decals. Good luck!

WANTED:   Hero Chainring posted by: Kim Deschaine on 9/11/2005 at 6:22:48 AM
I'm looking to purchase your chain rings (2) with your company name Hero as part of the chain ring. I saw one in a vintage bike shop in India but it was in poor shape. Looking for the ones that have Hero in big letters, not lettering on the peice but as part of the structure. Do you know where such an item can be located?

Thank you.

Question: I found an unusual old bike. It is a tandem with a springer fork most likely from the 20's or 30's. The rear
tire says elgin. Can anyone point me to the proper place to post a photo so that someone can help me identify what make this old old tandem is?
