I found this listing, don't know much about this bike. Is it overpriced? Here's the info: "Late 1950's or early 1960's ladies English Rudge 3 speed bicycle needing some minor repair." The needed repair is apparently to the 3-speed shifter.... any info or advice would be much appreciated! :) |
You omitted the price.... These are not investments except as transportation. They are often found at garage-sale prices, since they compete economically with shiny new ones from xmart. Once working correctly it will last forever and give great value. The correct S-A shifter for the period can be easily determined, (look up English 3-speeds on sheldonbrown.com) and there are plenty of them around. by: 209.7.150.163 |
Sorry, I scrolled down - $350? no. Shop around. One-fifth of that perhaps. by: 209.7.150.163 |

Len is right. There are a lot of good English three-speeds around, cheap. I have a couple available here in Lafayette, Indiana. by: 205.188.117.15 |

Sorry, forgot to say, they're asking $350 for it. by: 66.65.124.133 |
I have 2 1948 Rudge 3 speed models. My shifters are acting up a little bit too. You can find these on Ebay brand new very cheap. I saw one for $5. As far as their asking price - seems too high. If you are collecting them and want that particular model and year then go for it. If you just want an English 3 speeds for cruising around, then wait for something newer that needs no work (other than tires/tubes). They will ride the same and you won't have to pay such a high price. You might want to check thrift stores or garage sales. The value of these English 3 speeds is under appreciated since they are heavy and don't have shiny trendy paint jobs. You can find a used one in good condition for under $100. Good luck to you! by: 76.186.132.176 |
Hey just a shot in the dark here, but I have what I believe to be a late 50's OTB frame constructed by Charlie Hamburger. Any ideas where I could pick up an original badge? thanks! by: 75.68.179.163 |
I have an OTB that has a decal, not a badge. I could send you a photo. Also CR has an OTB pictured on their American builders page. G by: 64.222.109.75 |
Looking for a 26" x 1.75" wheel for a beach cruiser, preferably alloy, 36 spokes. I know I can order them online, but would prefer to buy local (and hopefully cheaper). Cheers- by: 209.6.158.28 |
Hey, one more question: Does anybody know anything about a bicycle called derycke? I don't know anything else about it, except its a road bike. It is for sale, but i want to find out some info about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks by: 71.169.165.107 |
interesting... I just picked up a derycke at a freecycle event. nobody around here (denver) has ever heard of them. Mine is at least 38 years old (tin bike license from 1970 still on the fork) and is a three speed with an internal shift hub. It's been well maintained. All I did was clean it up and put air in the tires and it works well. I'm definitely interested in hearing if anyone else knows anything about these bikes. by: 75.171.134.46 |
