I traded more than I should have for a Schwinn le tour that is complete and has a few rusty chips but very little use including mint original tires. The chain and Shimano derailleurs are rusty. I would replace them but some may like the originality. The Schwinn and Le Tour decals are flaking off but others are perfect and the paint color is bronze. Before I change the bike does someone in the Boston area passionately want one of these? If not I'll tear into it next week. by: 12.104.1.106 |
Those Le Tour's are woth fixing. According to my 1979 Schwwinn catalog, the Shimano derailers are original and the frame is "Made in the USA" torch brazed- 1020 carbon steel tubing....$180 bike new! Best of luck bringin' her back to life! PS; Have any Raleigh road bike frames to sell?....I'm up in Newburyport. Drew by: 151.199.47.30 |
This Le Tour is 4130 and weighs by bathroom scale 25 pounds with all the reflectors and heavy seat on it! everything is original except the seat and I have a mint Schwinn Approved seat for it. It does not say super Le Tour but the 4130 frame and alloy wheels are more like one of those. I have everything back to working perfectly as of this morning. Once I get a new chain I'll take it out for a spin. I have two Raleigh frames a 1965 Rudge and a Robin Hood Lenton Sports (don't get excited it is 2030 steel) if you need frames. I just gave friends a couple of nice bikes a Raleigh and a Phillips and sold a Humber and a Phillips. I still have too many bikes though. I am in Newton or if it is easier I work in Lowell and can throw them in the car if you want to take a look. by: 75.67.133.117 |
Check Craig's list. There's a Raleigh Gran Sport (ought to be 531 but the photos don't show the label) with Stronglight crank for sale in Lynn. Mebbe you're interested. It's too small for me. by: 216.15.114.27 |
For a Grand Sport from memory the main tubes are 531 straight tubing and the stays and fork are plain 2030. I don't remember a Carlton to know of any difference but they were taking liberties with their valued old names as with the Lenton Sports on a Robin Hood which was nothing but a Record. by: 75.67.133.117 |
Thanks for the info on the English bikes, I'm actualy looking for higher end like a Super Course or International, larger size.... 60-63 cm. by: 68.160.1.67 |
Gran Sport is a step up from Super Course (all 531 DB) but the one in Lynn is obviously too small for you. by: 216.15.114.27 |
David is right if it is a Gran Sport. Even though I said Gran Sport I was focusing on the Blue and white and remembered that as a Super Course. I was describing a SC. Thanks David. Ron by: 75.67.133.117 |
just wondering how much it may be worth everything original, but alittle bit rusty by: 71.103.234.2 |
Tim, any luck with your Pathfinder? I have one about that vintage. I'd like to see a picture. There are some nice catalog pages reproduced on the net but I've misplaced the linkage... by: 209.7.150.163 |
thanks for the info will send a picture when i get it out of storage by: 71.103.198.82 |
This isn't exactly a light weight type question but::: I stumbled on a 3 piece crank to fit the old style 2 inch bottom bracket like found on cruiser frames.Wondering if anyone has seen such a thing or knows where to find them.It uses square mounting flange like typical cranks. The only real difference is the axle.I'm going to ask over at the fat tire forum as well. There's a Chrome frame Raleigh single frame conversion up on ebay, no. 260093482595 with a headbadge that reads "Raleigh cycle company of America" ?(I've not seen this badge before). The top of the seat tube is stamped "Raleigh". What model might this frame be and how old is it ? by: 151.203.48.104 |
Huffy produced Raleighs under license from 1985 to 1988 I believe under the "Raleigh Cycle Co of America" name. It may actually be US-made. I have no idea what model it might be. Does the seller claim a weight for it? by: 216.15.114.27 |
