AGE / VALUE: 1976 sears spyder

Back in 1976 My folks bought me a boys sears spyder chopper. Chrome forks, ape hangers, fat slick, gas tank and all. I still have that beast, which I credit with giving me Wile E. Coyote legs, stored away in my attic. Anyone have an idea what it's worth? I've been saving it for my kids (One girl here, another rugrat on the way gender TBD) I never realized there was such a sub/counter culture devoted to old bikes. Normally I dabble Civil War re-enactment and restoring 1930s Ford cars,1940s-50s Chevy trucks, so any info about my bike would be appreciated. This was my first bike and There are many memories associated with it. (watching my friends blast up hills on their ten-speeds while I lumbered on behind with only one;)

Hi Chris, I saw your inquiry on the old Stingray and saw where someone answered that they have a banan seat and shifter from a five speed Spyder. I am intersetsed in finding an old five speed 24 inch Sears spyder like I had when I was a kid did you make any contacts who might know where to find one and if so could you pass on an addres to me please? Thanks

| The bike I was talking about isn't a five speed shifter type, it's the "chopper style" single speed with the fake tank and looooong chrome forks... Like the one in the photo database refered to as a 1969 girls model, but this bike was bought in 1976. Does anyone out there know more of the history and value of this bike?

I am looking for a 1966 Wards Hawthorne Musclebike. Prefer it to be a purple girls version with a white banana seat but will consider similar bikes. I had one of these as a child and have not been able to find any information about them. Could this have been made by another company that I may have better luck finding? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

There was a discussion here about a month ago on how to figure a Huffy's age from the serial number. Keep clicking on "MORE MESSAGES" at the bottom of the screen to find it, or use the search function which searches the most recent archives. (VVVintage - you should try to improve your archive search programs. You have 5 years of discussions but they are hard to get to)
