Thats strange: Michael did not post an email address & he uses just as many exclamation points and has poor spelling just like Rickey. Also, why would a 15 year old boy buy/ride a 30 year old rusty girls bike? I guess I shouldnt have used the word "gentlemen" in my ealier posting.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   info please posted by Conrad on 5/27/2001 at 7:22:51 PM
I posted a photo on the Schwinn site so all could see: Just look for the title "Rust will Come Off Easy". Cheers Rickey.

AGE / VALUE:   Losing my mind in the barn loft on a Saturday afternoon posted by: ChristopherRobin2@starmail.com on 5/1/2001 at 8:33:22 AM
I've decided to bring this thing home even though I don't know what it is. I see the cissy bar sticking up with the pad thats all. I know Raleigh's and Schwinn but the other stuff gets wild and woolly on me. I know it isn't a Chopper because I already bought the only one there. No, this is some department store Chopper I have never seen or heard about before. I hope it is complete, A Sting Ray too in there, I dunno exactly. If I pull it out I'd better bring it home. Misc wheels and parts. I had better bring it all home this time before I hear: Oh Chris, It's too hot up here, it's buried, forget it, What do you want that for? I'm hungry, I have errands, can't because I am visiting relatives, not feeling to well better wait, and wait, and wait. then wait some morer Oh it's too hot. There is a wasp's nest up there, you might fall down my stairs. Any one of this type of little saying will sink me. I hate looking at something and being too stupid to know what to bring home and if it is all buried how can I bone up on something?
It goes like this: first the bike itself, then next trip the correct front wheel, then the leather seat, then the enclosed chaincase parts then the dynohub light. Finally after 4 trips the darned thing is together properly. Oh, that ancient trueing stand is there also! What do I offer? What do they go for? I dunno who made it? Oh, Id love to have it!
I am going to have a paper in with every thing I have describing the efforts I have made to acquire this and that. A story to go with every addition to the collection. I'll post a update, wish me luck. Time is running out as things are getting wackier.

Please, just please do not say that awful, hideous, terrible word, Landfil. Landfil means everything evil and bad. It means defeat. the battle lost. The enemy has triumphed! time ran out, you have failed! projects not completed, history lost for ever, collectible parts gone,it means more searching, higher prices paid, money lost, that the cool stuff on e- bay isn't yours, beacuse you missed out and it has gone to waste. It bites to track down a lead only to have missed it by moments.

Hay im at the same place i drive an 18 wheeler and my eyes strain to see in ever barn i stop at every old shop, when im feeling down and need a fix i start looking for bikes,,and low and behold i see a pair of ape hangers,,now i have to put this 40ton truck down and walk back searching barns,,i found gold hahahah

RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:The most terrible word there is posted by Jacob on 5/2/2001 at 5:21:39 AM
So true.... All of it.

Like going to a yard sale and asking about old bikes, only to find someone had bought them earlier in the morning: "Oh, they were just some old Schwinns and Columbias with those fat tires"

Then there was the closed bike shop I came across in a town about 50 miles from home. I wrote down the number of the realtor who was advertising the property for sale. After several weeks of begging the realtor to get the ex-shop owner to call me, he calls, only to say the shop shut down 2 years ago after being in business for 40 years, and 3 weeks earlier he sold the remaining inventory to a big parts distributor.

But sometimes there are good scores, too. Like the overnight camp which was renovating an old mill building and had to get rid of everything in the building, including the left over parts and tools from a bike club which was run up until the 1960s.

And the local guy who does 'cleanouts' of estates and keeps the bikes until he has a pickup load, then he calls. The most recent load included an old Dayton a clean Wasp and an Apple Krate, plus some lesser bikes which will be donated to the local temple.

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:The most terrible word there is posted by ChristopherRobin2@starmail.com on 5/2/2001 at 10:59:37 AM
It can make me stand in the middle of the street and scream "AAIIEEGH, OH, OH, AAIIEEGH, AAARRRGH!"
Keep searching, and being diligent, don't dwell on it and it will happen.

RE:MISC:   raleigh chopper diagram posted by Cal on 4/30/2001 at 5:49:00 AM
There are hub exploded diagrams on this site, and on the "links" page there's a link to Jim Barnards "Raleigh Chopper Primer" with loads of detailed Chopper pictures.

RE:RE:MISC:   Raleigh Chopper diagram posted by ChristopherRobin2@starmail.com on 5/1/2001 at 9:13:29 AM
There are too many Chopper consoles anyway! Some are worth more than others! Sturmey Archer sold some to non Raleigh Chopper bikes to make it more interesting for me.
Then there are 333 and Shimano consoles too.I could have a huge collection of just Chopper style consoles and all the idiotic small parts to go with them.
Oh and those Raleigh Sportshift covers, just the covers in origonal boxes! Any call for just the covers? Exploded diagrams detailing the console shifters? Good luck, perhaps there is. I have the books and don't see that. just the complete units.
