Schwinn exerciser yeilds usable parts. I took out the front wheel and this one was a S- 7 with the valve hole already there. I didn't have to drill one. There was a grey metal cap plugging it up. The hub has a fixed gear on it and it is threaded like a rear hub. There is one Weinmann brake I can use. Also the adjustable seatpost clamp and handlebar grips. The seat post and chain too. Union chain this time. This was dusty and all parts are in excellent shape because it was never used and kept indoors. $5.00 for the whole thing. I was hoping the front tire was a regualar tire but it was solid rubber or really semi- pneumatic and it wasn't so hard to prise off once I got it going. Also the small sprocket fits some of the Sting Rays exactly and the crank set matches exactly. So I got some good parts off of it. |
You forgot to mention the Schwinn speedometer, too! |
Cable, housing, brackets the whole speedo itself. Thanks. Look it over and think, What can I use off of this abnd apply it to everything and everybody. |
I threw the semi- pneumatic tire away and here somebody is selling one telling folks to go skidding with it. I think it might move and possibly come off the rim if you did that. This semi pneumatic tire was intended for the exerciser and not to be really ridden. Anyways at last look it wasn't selling. |

Can one you tell me, what was the last month of stingray production? I have a Sept. 79 sky blue stingray, nothin special. But maybe its one of the last? If it is one of the last, does that make it worth a little bit as an end of the line bike? Its in decent shape. |
Check the Sting-Ray Summary under the general resources section of this site. |
hey I have a sweet 64 stingray deluxe that is all original except the front tire the rear tire is the orig. white wall 20x2.125 on the orig. s2 rim the front is a black nobby tire that is not orig. and really takes away from the look of the bike. I really need a good used orig. white wall for the front 20x1 3/4 for the s7 frnt. wheel please help |
There are a few new 'repop' Schwinn Westwind white walls on Ebay right now. Very cheap too. Great tire if you plan to ride your bike. I have a NOS original WW tire in my stash. Email me with an offer if that's what you want. I've had it over 4 years now so it may have 'aged' a little. Good luck. |

Hello, just had to say how amazed I am when I see a complete krate or stingray sitting around for a couple of bucks or many times for free. I live in Iowa and around here you can find a COMPLETE apple krate with a 5 speed shifter, whamo-o-whellie bar- spedometer, and springer if you looked hard enough. To get to my point, I found a Shelby Renegade for $2, Schwinn stingray for free, Huffy Elimantor for free, and a prewar schwinn for free, all intact with no rust on chrome or dents. There are currntly 6 bicycle junkyards and barns I know of that have some very valuable bikes hanging around there. I know where I can pick up around 60 complete bicycles for free if I had the room for them all, and a Firestone 26" bike all intact for $20.00 IF I had the room, and around 10 more krates and stingrays in different barns around Iowa. Also the junkyards around here all have a place for bicycles. the one right outside of town has a HEAP of frames, forks, wheels, tanks, ANYTHING that anyone needed really you could find in Iowa, I am surprised that Iowa isnt mentioned more around here. Thanks, Bye. |
i am amazed jimmy isn't smart enough to collect up all these valuable bikes and sell them on ebay. i guess that would be too radical an idea for an iowan. |
Hey Jimmy, I'll take 3 of those FREE Krates! But please make sure they are all 5 speeds, with wheelie bars and Vroom motors too. I'll gladly pay the shipping! Thanks! |
That would be, Iowegian. As there are a ton of Norwegian people here. Some of them a tad slow. But Jimmy, I live in Iowa too, where abouts in Iowa are you ??? I was planning to go to the Iowa State University bike sale to look for some good stuff next month, but I might be persuaded to look elsewhere, let me know. And I don`t have ANY room in my garage either, not that that would stop me from acquiring some good bikes, especially for cheap or free. Gotta love that ! E-mail me . |
I am from Fort Dodge, and why would I want to send 3 bikes to you a$$-O?????????????even if you did pay shipping, I am not buying these up because I have no use of them, and I dont believe in making huge profits from elderly people who dont have a clue to what they have.It is inconsiderate ass O's like YOU who ruin the fun for all.If you wan these bikes come get them, but I am not telling anyone only because you will go get them from these poor old people and make huge profits because you told them that they were worthless, seen that more than a few times.BYE |
Hey Guido, where is the ISU bike swap meet at??is it on campus??or around Ames? Thanks. |
Dang Jimmy, you need to channel your anger in a constructive manner. You are making a GRAND assumption that I am looking to profit on these, just the contrary. There are three young kids in my neighborhood whose family has fallen on hard times. To make matters worse, their cheapo dime store bikes were stolen. I was looking to get these bikes and fix them up for these three poor kids. So that instead of constantly being the butt of cruel jokes because they are poor, they would be the envy of the neighborhood. Thanks for your kind heartedness. |
I am amazed...why did jimmy even bother posting this message? Yeah, you sound like you're sitting on a gold mine and you're the sheriff who's gonna protect these poor folks from people who go looking for a good deal you just gave prices to? Gimmie a break. Talk is cheap. |
Rechecked my calendar, oops, it`s Wed. Today at 3:00 p.m.!! It`s on campus, probably at the Campus police station bike impound building. It`s right down the block from the campus police station, they will give you directions from the station. I`m bummed, I`m going to be working my fanny off down in Des Moines and I have to go to the computer parts store afterwards for a hard drive and a modem. I`m going to totally miss the auction, dang !! |
I think Jimmy is a troll. Just looking to cause trouble. Jimmy, how about posting a street address of the bike junkyards? That way you would be helping people here find good bikes and parts, and you would be helping the owners of the bikes by getting cash in their hands. You wouldn't need to do a thing, other than post the address (and phone if possible, but we all can get a phone number from an address). |
THEY WONT GET CASH, ONLY A COUPLE BUCKS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CLUE TO WHAT THEY OWN.WOULD YOU WANT TO PAY HUNDREDDS OF DOLLARS WHEN YOU COULD OF GOT IT FOR $2??I KNOW I WOULDNT!THATS WHY I DONT WANT TO SEE THESE OLD FOLKS LOSE HUNDREDS.I AM NOT GIVING ANY ADDRESSES BECAUSE THEN EVERYONE WOULD BE GOING TO THERE HOMES AND BUGGING THEM!!DAMN I MISSED THE BIKE IMPOUND AUSTION, ITS 3:44!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OH MANNNNNN!!OH WELL,I SHOULD GO BUY A BIKE TODAY....I THINK I WILL.............I AM..BYE! |
you go on now protecting those old folk. and buying your shelby renegades for $2.00. and then asking us if it's worth anything. and taking your prozac. |
Jimmy, just go back out there and look around for something special, rare, something you can't wait to haul back home and put together into something you enjoy riding. Learn all you can about the various kinds of old bikes. Have fun with the bike, get some exercise, donate a refurbished bike to somebody less fortunate like Stacey does. Pull out a bike that has value and re- sell it and save the money you make. Be careful in the piles of old bikes, wear steel toe boots, long pants. Go with a flashlight if at night. Have fun, don't give away a location address ever. It brings in competition and who needs that? You may be zaped with inspiration to create some crazy but way cool kustom project. Look at the other bicycle web sites for inspiration and ideas and best of all knowledge. It's cool finding something rare and seldom seen. You are playing about in history so learn and have fun. Bicycle history. Schwinn, Rollfast, Raleigh, J.C. Higgans, Whatever it is, it is history. Be careful, watch out for yourself but go fo it! Be sure you are allowed to go through the pile of old bikes. Get permission, just don't go and tresspass on somebody elses land. They don't want to be liable if you get hurt and it is their land and no bike or great, wonderous mountain of old bikes is worth getting ticketed for tresspassing, theft and whatever else they decide to stick you with. Some folks own a gun and don't take kindly to somebody picking thru a trash heap. Get permission, ask and if they still say no, then move on and let it go. Some people let a dog wander about to guard property and they usually get ugly when they see a stranger. The dog has been trained to guard and attack an intruder. No dog is gonna let you explain yourself and after a bite or two you faint and then the dog will devour you and then everybody here will wonder "Wheres Jimmy?" We wouldn't want that. Now go back out there, all proper like and find something way cool and tell us about it so we can all be jealous of you! |
Snakes, bee hives, dogs, danger of falling.I'm not mentioning the law here because it is assumed you are not dumb enough to go rooting thru a place without proper permission. No matter how abandoned it may look there is somebody who owns it. The spokes are all jammed up in the handlebars and the thing got twisted and you have to untangle it. Then haggling with the farmer over a reasonable price for it. Bikes hanging from trees? That I have to see. I wouldn't doubt it. Just don't drop that Shelby on to my partner's head. I just can imagine the story.... Well, Chris wanted to get this bike down and he droped it on Randy's head and well......! |
I think I am going to go exploring in Iowa. I'll see the baseball diamond used in that movie. And I'll go exploring thru the state. Now if I come back in a years time and report that I found nothing I am gonna be mad at somebody. |
I agree Christopher, and you chris can even see the baseball diamond!!!And come to Fort Dodge to see the ORIGINAL CARDIFF GIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not that FAKE one in the New York mueseum!Come see the Madison County bridges, and the place where twister the movie was taped! And come grab all the krates you can handle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IOWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RULESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Hey Jimmy, grow up and stop the "Scared Little Girl" screaming... you're giving me a headache! Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. My masters gone away! |
Hello, I found a Shelby Renegade tady, its green, has ram horn style handlebars, 20", BMX red seat.no fenders. Is this worth doing anything to??Its in pretty good condition.Cantilever frame, no white walls.Any info??Thanks |
Also the headbadge says AMF on it. The chaingaurd says RENEGADE on it, ever heard of one? Thanks. |
I had an AMF Renegade 3 speed once while my dad was stationed in the Philippines at Clark AFB. It was yellow and black. The seat was black with yellow stripes. I believe the chain guard had a 3 silkscreened on it and the shifter was on the handlebars. I saw one of these on eBay once. I should have pursued it harder. |
I found an old schwinn girls bike in the goodwill dumpster. I was wondering if I could get some info on what it is. I thought it was a slik chic but it had an american flag banana seat. Also, on the chainguard it only says schwinn. I thought maybe it was a bicentennial, but the serial # says: JR38774 any info on this would be appreciated! check out my website at:GF Bikes. |
Heres a question for a real expert. I got a tire that says Schwinn Sting Ray Slik but I have never seen one like it and I cant seem to find another one like it. It is about the size of a gripper slik and it has the studded sides like a gripper slik. But the rest is like a regular slik and it has two grooves that go all the way around like a goodyear slik. If this rings any bells Im wondering if this is called a Studded Slik and if it was only put on the early Sting Rays? Im stumped. Thanks. |
I just picked up what I was told is a ccm mustang. its been repainted and i am unfamiliar with these bikes. anyone know where there might be a picture of one? any other info appreciated. 3 speed stik shift, 20" rear, 16" front. thanx |
Mike Watson, BikeRod&Kustom's Associate Editor is Canadian, and quite an authority on CCM. He sent me a URL last year on a reissue of the CCM Mustang. He could probably point you in the right direction for that or other info. You have tried a Google search, right? mc2watson@sympatico.ca |
Hi. Bought a 20" Roadmaster Rainbow at a garage sale. It is white in front, lilac in back, with a rainbow band between. Has a white banana seat, and medium-rise bars like old BMX bars. SN is GU613788. How old is it? Also, it had nice whitewalls, who carries cheap replacements? Not like the $25 Haro's one shop tried to sell me. Gordon |
