I just purchased an Apple krate for $25, serial #JD06***. Its in rough condition with fading paint, minor rust, seat has faded, missing rear reflector and front fender. But it has no dents or dings. Was wondering what year it is. I am going fix it up on a limited budget. I am open to any and all suggestions on restoring. by: 24.225.24.11 |
I got the year JD is 9/68 Apple Krates are not listed in 68, because of the month is this considered a 69? It has a whitewall slik on the rear, was this origional? All pics i've seen do not have the whitewall tire. by: 24.225.21.151 |

Your Apple Krate was put together somewhere in 1969 (the 1st year of Apple Krates), but the frame itself was manufactured in September 1968. by: 199.179.238.68 |
Schwinn added the Apple Krate, along w/ the Pea Picker, & the Lemon Peeler to their Krate line in 1969, but your frame was manufactured in September 1968. by: 199.179.238.68 |
This was a bike I owned as a kid and it was stolen---It had a Cheetah Slick tire on the back and a red white and blue patriotic paint job including stars and stripes banana seat---I would love to find one again---email me with a clue Thanks Dean by: 4.31.241.199 |
I have the exact bike you are talking about. I have the frame fork and chainguard for it. I had the whole bike but the parts were rusted so I took what was still good on it but it did have a red white and blue seat and I have the cheetah slcik from it but I am going to use it on another bike. But I will be willing to sell the frame fork and chainguard. Let me know if you are interested, you can email me at murrayfirecat77@aol.com by: 68.45.63.222 |

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE NEW ELECTRIC STINGRAYS? I SAW THEM FOR SALE ON THE WALMART WEBSITE.18 MPH TOP SPEED .25 MILES PER CHARGE ON A 250 WATT BATTERY.THEY GO FOR 400.JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS SEEN ONE IN PERSON AND WHAT THEY THINK. I HAVE A BLUE OCC, AND A CHROME OCC STINGRAY,AND AM THINKING OF GETTING ONE OF THESE BUT I WANT TO SEE ONE FIRST. by: 192.80.95.243 |
Electric? Go figure. No, I've not seen one. 1/4 mile on a charge? Not a lot of range there... but hey, could be used for the uphills I guess. I bet they will start turning up at-retail soon enough. Seems that production has ramped up sufficiently to have them in-stock on the Walmart selling floor. Later! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 65.204.27.12 |
I MADE A MISPRINT,THEY GET 25 MILES PER CHARGE.1/4 MILES WOULD BE PRETTY POINTLESS,DONT YOU THINK? by: 192.80.95.243 |
Ah... that's much better. 25 miles makes a lot more sense.... I did find that the .25 mile range did seem pointless... but the... 1/4 mile... depending on how FAST one goes ;-) I've not seen anything of this... be it on the web or up close and personal. Could be pretty interesting. And being DC powered... there are certain things one can do to a DC motor to up the performance.... without re-winding the armature. Later! I seen to remember seeing Sting-Ray electric scooters at Walmart last summer. Is that what you're referring to? by: 63.102.203.28 |
THESE ELECTRIC STINGRAYS ARE THE SAME AS THE 20 INCH OCC CHOPPER BIKES. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT HANDLEBARS.THEY ARE PAINTED BLACK, WITH AN ''ELECTRIC SHOCK'' DESIGN.THESE ARE NOT THE SCOOTERS.THEY ALSO HAVE AN ARMY TYPE VERSION OF THE STINGRAY CHOPPER BIKE.ITS ARMY GREEN WITH A GRIMACING FACE ON THE GUSSET,LIKE ON THE NOSE OF AN OLD BOMBER JET.IT ALSO HAS A TAN SEAT INSTEAD OF A BLACK ONE. IT LOOKS PRETTY COOL.WE WILL SEE HOW HARD THEY ARE TO COME BY.YOU CAN SEE THESE BIKES ON THE WALMART WEBSITE LISTED UNDER BICYCLES ''STINGRAYS''GOOD HUNTING !!! YES SIR ,THATS THE ONE.I GUESS ITS NOT A STINGRAY,BUT CLOSE ENOUGH I GUESS. by: 192.80.95.243 |
I JUST CHECKED OUT THE BIKE ON YHE WALMART SITE,IT HAS A 450 WATT MOTOR, NOT 250, SORRY MY MISTAKE. by: 192.80.95.243 |
Well it sure looks like one. Particularly the seat and rear tire. I wonder how long before it's offered with the 49cc motor so ubuiquitous to the realm of late. Later!!! Boneman by: 69.39.171.101 |
