Bike Swap Jan. 20th 2008 Butler PA(near Pittsburgh) posted by: ralph on 12/28/2007 at 2:07:53 PM
coming up in less than a month.
excellent swap meet, especially if you are looking to sell stuff, as I came there to buy all the road bike=lightweight stuff you have. Campagnolo, Huret, Simplex, BSA, Frejus, Paramount, Rene Herse, Alex Singer, or anything else cool.
there is a special deal too at the days inn, where it is held. $50 a room, if reservations are made before Jan. 1st. must also state that you are coming there for the show.
Days Inn in Butler 724-287-6761.
Butler is just north of Pittsburgh.
the Days iNn has an indoor pool and a hot tub. and on Sat. night before the swap, a bar with a Dj and a dancefloor.
TO ALEX SINGER I HAVE N.O.S EARLY CAMPY PARTS IN SEAL BAGS AND SIMPLEX TOO. IF INTERESTED EMAIL? PETER
SO, I SEE EVERYWHERE ON THE WEB THAT WALMART HAS NEW STINGRAYS FOR $88. I GUESS THEY COME IN BLACK, BLUE AND GREEN. SINGLE SPEED (COPY)KRATES. I GUESS NOT THE BEST QUALITY, BUT FOR $88.00 , THE PARTS ARE WORTH AT LEAST THAT.I THINK I'LL TRY TO GET ONE OF EACH.
They dropped the price down to $79..So thats what my kids gave me for xmas..Its black..Since then i cut the twinn bars and added a 80cc conversion to it..What a blast..P.S. i have 2 nos front Krate tires, and a green strip gripper slick for sale...Email me directly email@example.com...

What are the main things to look for when considering a 1968 "Original" Orange Krate?
Do you think Ebay is a good place to locate one and if not, how about some suggestions.
Yes, eBay and also your local craigslist.org
I prefer to buy stuff in person or at least from a reliable seller with a good reputation. Watch out for people on eBay who say something is original when it is really reproduction or an incorrect part. Look at their past auctions and make sure they sell a lot of bike stuff so they know their stuff.
I would look for the rarest of the orange krates...1968 no front fender and a pogo seat...They were dropped from the line after a mother suied Schwinn cause her son got ruptured on the seat..They went back to the stationary seat post...
I notice a lot of people refer to Pete's for having seats fixed or special restoration performed. Does this company have a website? Also a follow up question to Kim. Did all the original 68 orange krates have a pogo seat post?
You can find Pete's stuff at www.hyper-formance.com
He is an authorized Schwinn parts vendor and makes top notch reproduction parts. The Pogo seatposts were only available in 1968, 1969 bikes had rigid posts. I think Pete offers a repro pogo also.
Well, I won a bid on Ebay and my very first 68 Orange Krate is on its way. Thanks everyone so far. Watch for my other 10 million questions on what to do next.
I'm looking for a nice 20" S2 rim for an Orange Krate resto project. It is the last piece I need. Must be a nice straight, round rim with clean chrome. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Mike.
At the local bike shop there is a 70 cotton picker.Bike looks like it is brand new.It is all original except the seat.It is $1100 If anyone is interested it is located at Alpha Bicycle Co. 1215 South Santa Fe Ave. Vista Ca.92083 760-724-9822
